Children Are Adorable And Funny

Time for some sweet moments to cherish children. Once upon a time we were little, too. Children are always so adorable and funny! I just love them. These are my friends’ children. We were all at a park enjoying ourselves, barbecue and games, when obviously these 2 kids had a story of their own.

Children are an inspiration to me. Let’s remain childlike (not childish) like them. It keeps you young and fun to be with. Enjoy these pictures and smile!

Mexican Chicken Fajitas By Daughter

Mexican chicken fajita

Mexican chicken fajita

Mexican food is one of my upcoming favourite. I have eaten a couple of times and liked it but have not made it myself. One morning my youngest daughter said she wanted chicken fajita for lunch. Now that is new to me. I told her I don’t even know what it is. She said it’s a Mexican food which she ate with her friends a while ago and it’s very delicious. She said she will cook it. Wow….that’s a big surprise! Of course I was just too happy to surrender my kitchen to her if she would learn a dish…..happy me! Read more

Double Chocolate Cookies

Double chocolate cookies

Double chocolate cookies

These chocolate cookies must be the most chocolatey cookies I have ever made. My children love chocolate cookies so I thought I’ll give them a treat for being rather helpful lately. Flipping through my cookbook, my eyes sparkled at Double Chocolate Cookies by Donna Hay. I was amazed at the amount of chocolate used. I was so excited to try. I even doubled the portion thinking that this would be the best chocolate cookies.

When the cookies were baked, they were soft and very chocolatey but quite bitter because of the amount of dark chocolate used. My children didn’t like them….so sad. I also didn’t quite like them….more sad. I thought I was in trouble. What am I going to do with these cookies? Maybe I should turn them into some form of mess like Eton Mess. I was thinking that mixing them into ice cream may be a great idea. I can call it Mary Mess…haha Read more

Chicken And Ginger Stir Fry

Chicken and ginger stir fry

Chicken and ginger stir fry

This is a very simple and easy chicken stir fry dish with lots of ginger…..only 4 ingredients. This is one dish that I remember eating when I was young. We had healthy food. We grew our own vegetables and fruits and reared our own chicken, ducks, geese and other animals for food. The only seasoning that I can remember is sea salt and soya sauce. Most of the meat dishes are rather salty as there was no refrigerator to keep our food. On top of that, it made us eat more rice, more vegetables but less meat which is good. Read more

Malaysia Street Food (Hawker Food)

Roti tisu

Roti tisu

I love street food, also known as hawker food. To me, it’s better than restaurant food. If I am to visit another country, I would dive for street food and not those at the restaurants. There is something about street food that fascinates me and keeps me craving for more. On top of that, they are way cheaper than restaurant food.

On my recent trip back to Malaysia, a very good friend took us around for a few days trying out all the best street food in my home town, Sibu, a town in the state of Sarawak…….the best coffee shops for the best local food and the best drink. In Malaysia, street foods are mainly sold in small coffee shops or sometimes at the evening or night markets, called ‘pasar malam‘. Read more

I’m so thrilled I learned something new……MERINGUE!! I’m just over the moon….so happy! Topped with lemon cream and raspberry and mint leaves, I thought it’s the most beautiful dessert I have made so far. I made this for a party at home over the weekend. There was spring in my steps when I went round serving them to my guests. This is definitely going to be a popular item when I have parties. I had much fun making them. They were very delicious to eat, too. The combination of texture, taste and flavour was really beautiful. Read more

Jungle Fern (Midin) Stir Fry

Midin stir fry

Midin stir fry

Excited to share a wonderful wild jungle vegetable. It’s a fern and locally known as ’midin, milin or bilin‘. This special wild jungle fern stir fry is one of the only 2 dishes that I cooked during my recent holiday back to Malaysia. The other dish was Bitter Gourd And Egg Stir Fry. These are just a couple of my favourite local vegetables. Midin stir fry is one dish that everyone who visits Sarawak must try. It has a crispy texture and tastes very good.

Fresh midin

Fresh midin

Midin is very popular in Sarawak. It is a common dish in restaurants. It’s a creepy plant and grows wild in the forest. It’s regarded as a delicious and nutritious wild vegetable. Apparently this particular fern only grows on the island of Borneo. I’m interested to know where else they grow. The natives would pluck the top section of the fern and sell them at the local jungle produce market. I heard that these days people plant them for sale. Read more

Chicken Stir Fry with Coriander, Ginger And Onion

chicken with coriander, ginger and onions stir fry

chicken with coriander, ginger and onions stir fry

This chicken dish is my new favourite which I cooked for dinner yesterday. My children love ginger and coriander, also known as cilantro. They always ask me to add more….weird huh. I always wonder where did they get that huge liking from. I remember when I was young, I hated ginger and coriander but now I like it very much, too. Now I think I’m weird too….haha. Must have been influenced by my children. Well, coriander, ginger and onions have lots of health benefits so it’s good to like them.

I thought I would just make this chicken dish really simple with ginger, coriander and red onions and hope it turned out delicious. There was no elaborate seasoning except for the sea salt to marinate the chicken. The flavour has to come from the ginger, coriander and onions. I stir fried this dish under quite high heat so that the dish is fragrant and dry. I’m really so happy it turned out very delicious. We even enjoyed eating the ginger strips. The red onions were very tasty to as they taste sweet. Read more
