I’m excited to share this beautiful tom yum spinach stir fry which I learned from my daughter! I have been very busy lately and didn’t had much time to cook. One day my daughter went on an experiment spree in my kitchen! When she found a bottle of tom yum paste in the fridge, she was so delighted and tried it on spinach. Oh wow…I have to admit it was very delicious. Best of all it was so simple and really quick to cook, maybe a minute or two only. Curry laksa is one of my family’s top favourites. There are lots of Malaysian curry laksa. I must say every state and every race in Malaysia has its own version of laksa. To make laksa from scratch is very time consuming as there are all the spices and herbs to pound. Packet laksa mix or fresh laksa paste are easily available these days which brings back the joy and fun of home cooked laksa. While fresh laksa paste is usually not available overseas, as far as I know, I’m just very thankful that I can get packet laksa paste here.

This salmon burger dish is one of them. It makes for a good adult’s meal as well as a kid’s meal.

I love salmon not only for it’s delicacy but also for it’s health benefits, especially wild Alaskan salmon. It is high in Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids which are important for the heart and brain. Unlike other meat, it is not fed with antibiotics and hormones. Wild Alaskan salmons are also caught from the least polluted place on earth.

That’s all because of the beauty of a multi racial nation. Prawn soup noodles, locally called ‘Hokkien Mee‘, is just one of the very popular one dish meals. It’s spicy but very delicious.

I was first introduced to this most delicious dish when I was in Penang, also known as ‘Pearl of the Orient’. I fell in love with it immediately. So this dish is always known as Penang Prawn Noodles to me. This is one of my top family favourite, more so for me as I really love prawns. This is one dish that my family would ask for every now and then.

I love pineapples very much. I love eating it just as it is with a little sprinkle of salt. Sometimes I make pineapple juice out of it. But what if the pineapples are not sweet. That happens here very often because pineapples are imported and they are rarely fresh and sweet like back home in Malaysia. The best way is to make a salad out of it. Okra is a very healthy vegetable, especially good for the bowels. My favourite way of cooking it is to fry it with eggs as in Okra Fried With Egg, or with anchovies as in Okra (Ladies’ Fingers) And Anchovies Stir Fry. That was how my mom used to cook it for us when we were young. Another of my favourite is to fry it with char siu chicken. The lovely flavour of the char siu chicken makes this dish very flavourful. The other of my favourite way to cook okra is to cook curry fish with it. It’s very delicious.

Chicken And Sichuan Preserved Vegetable

I’m excited to introduce a special vegetable used often in Chinese dishes. It’s my favourite and have not eaten it for a long time. It’s Sichuan preserved vegetable. There are several types of Sichuan reserved vegetables but this particular one comes in lumps. It may look ugly to some people but it’s very delicious cooked with chicken or any other meat. It goes very well with rice, congee, or rice porridge. It tastes a little crunchy. I cooked it with chicken the other day. This is one dish that you will be very happy to have left over because it tastes even better the next day.

In Malaysia it’s sold in jars and coated with chili paste. But the ones that I bought here from the Chinese shop were sold in plastic bags and very thinly coated with the chili paste. I found the flavour is not as good but I should be very thankful to be able to get it here.
