Pandan Yoghurt Cake

Pandan yoghurt cake

A new way to eat yogurt….in a cake! Cakes made with yoghurt are very delicious and make great desserts for any time. When I made the Chocolate Yoghurt Cake recently I only used 300g of yoghurt but this time I was more adventurous. I added more. I used 500g! I also used a lamington tin instead of a deeper cake tin to bake it. It turned out very soft and moist and tasted very delicious. I made to share with friends and all of them liked it very much.

Iban Longhouse Of Sarawak

Iban longhouse, Sarawak

Iban longhouse, Sarawak

Another exciting holiday post that I can’t wait to share with everyone. During my recent visit back, I was so thrilled when my husband’s best friend took us to visit an Iban longhouse. It is one of the greatest attractions of Sarawak. Sarawak is also called East Malaysia and situates on the island of Borneo. I have never visited a longhouse before despite being born and bred in Sarawak. I only read and heard a lot about it. I have always wanted to visit it and in this trip my dream came true. It was an awesome, humbling experience.

Best Local Fruits Of Malaysia

Local fruit stall

Local fruit stall

Oooh…I’m loving this blog post! I love fruits, especially all the tropical fruits. They are not only very delicious but excellent for health. I just feel so happy to share some of the best local Malaysian fruits, particularly those from Sarawak. They were so fresh, colourful, refreshing, sweet, juicy and delicious. Writing this post makes me miss home very much.

One of the best part about my recent holiday back in Malaysia was eating some of the best local fruits. While the hot and humid Malaysian weather quite killed our appetites, the many wonderful local fruits brought much cheer to us. Friends and relatives were giving us fresh fruits from their gardens while some were bought from the local markets. They were so sweet and juicy.

Malaysian Curry Fish Laksa

Curry laksa fish

Curry laksa fish

Curry laksa is one of my family’s top favourites. There are lots of Malaysian curry laksa. I must say every state and every race in Malaysia has its own version of laksa. To make laksa from scratch is very time consuming as there are all the spices and herbs to pound. Packet laksa mix or fresh laksa paste are easily available these days which brings back the joy and fun of home cooked laksa. While fresh laksa paste is usually not available overseas, as far as I know, I’m just very thankful that I can get packet laksa paste here.

Beautiful Mt Kinabalu - Malaysia

Beautiful Mt Kinabalu, Malaysia (South Peak)

Beautiful Mt Kinabalu, Malaysia (South Peak)

I am always fascinated by mountains. I love mountains. They speak so much about life (will share another time). I have climbed a couple very low ones which took about an hour to reach to the top. The highest that I have climbed was Lochnagar, 1155m high, here in Scotland. The climb was tough but the mountain top view was absolutely stunning. But here I’m excited to introduce to you the most beautiful mountain in South East Asia, none other than Mt Kinabalu of Malaysia.

Chocolate Coconut Slice

Chocolate coconut slice

Time for a sweet dessert. Coconut is my favourite. Back home in Malaysia we use a lot of coconut in our cooking and desserts, like Best Coconut RollsPopular Malaysian Dessert (Bubur Cha Cha)9 Layered Coffee Rice Pudding and Condensed Milk Tapioca Cake, to name a few. We use it a lot in our curries, too. Freshly grated coconut is easily available. Nothing beats that. It gives awesome flavour, no matter what you cook.

Fried rice is such a comfort food. It’s my favourite, both to cook and to eat. My whole family loves fried rice. It is simple, easy and quick to dish up a meal and yet tastes very delicious. This Malaysian Country Fried Rice is very delicious. Crispy anchovies are always added. Other ingredients vary.

Daughter’s Comment On Blog Post

Just very recently my daughter cooked fried rice. It was very simple but tasted very delicious. I called it Special Fried Rice because she offered to cook it when she saw that I was very busy. That’s so sweet of her! Just in case you missed out on her comment on the blog post, she wrote, “Hello to everyone who reads my mom’s blog. I’m Sharon her daughter who cooked the fried rice that you are all so lovely to compliment  :) I’m just glad I didn’t burn down the kitchen haha. Thanks for all your comments. Keep coming back for more recipes and definitely try them out! Especially my mom’s food, which I know for sure is absolutely the most delicious in the whole world because I’ve tried it all lol. Mom, you’re amazing and I love you to bits.” Wow……beautiful and so touching! That makes her even sweeter….haha. Well, I do hope that I’m always an inspiration to her! Actually she is a real inspiration to me.

Chicken And Sichuan Preserved Vegetable

Chicken and mustard

Chicken and mustard

I’m excited to introduce a special vegetable used often in Chinese dishes. It’s my favourite and have not eaten it for a long time. It’s Sichuan preserved vegetable. There are several types of Sichuan reserved vegetables but this particular one comes in lumps. It may look ugly to some people but it’s very delicious cooked with chicken or any other meat. It goes very well with rice, congee, or rice porridge. It tastes a little crunchy. I cooked it with chicken the other day. This is one dish that you will be very happy to have left over because it tastes even better the next day.

In Malaysia it’s sold in jars and coated with chili paste. But the ones that I bought here from the Chinese shop were sold in plastic bags and very thinly coated with the chili paste. I found the flavour is not as good but I should be very thankful to be able to get it here.
