My best healthy cocktail drink

My best healthy cocktail drink

I’m sharing with you my favourite, daily health drink. And that is Bragg’s apple cider vinegar and raw honey mixed. To me, it’s my best cocktail….a highly healthy one. I drink 2 big mugs a day. My big Starbuck mug (pictured above) holds at least 2 cups. I love to use big mugs because it encourages me to drink as I do my work on my computer or watch tv. I don’t gulp it all down in one go but in sips. That big mug generally lasts me about 1 hour or so.

My husband also has a big mug, much bigger than mine! I’m sure his can hold at least 3 cups. I always make him this healthy cocktail later in the evening while he watches tv. I still remember the first time when I served him his big mug of drink. He gave me a horrified look and thought I was crazy. I bet in his mind he was counting the number of times he was going to run to the toilet that night…..hahaha. Well, I told him that mug is supposed to last him 2 hours and not 2 minutes. He followed….quite obedient huh……..*grin*. Did he keep running to the toilet that night? Thank goodness….NO! Otherwise that would be his last drink I believe.

Not too sure if you are aware that an acidic body makes you vulnerable to sicknesses and diseases. It’s conducive to viruses and bacteria. Our body functions at its best at about pH 7.4. There are lots of factors that contribute to an acidic body. They are mainly poor nutrition, pollutants, drugs, poisons and chemicals that we breath in or ingest. Do read the ingredients when you buy household stuff and food. The best is to stay away from processed  and canned food as they are loaded with preservatives and additives. Besides some cleaning liquids are so loaded with strong chemicals that they can even choke you to death before your cleaning is done.

pH testing strips

pH testing strips

An easy way to measure your body pH is to get pH strips. You can easily get them online. They are very easy to use. All instructions are given. I still remember years ago when I was very sick, my pH was about 6! That was frightening. Changes in food, lifestyle and the things that I use at home are key factors to help my blood pH up. Our body cannot fight off diseases if our blood pH is not properly balanced.

A lot of research has shown a link between an acidic pH and cancer. Cancer survives in an acidic and no oxygen environment. Acidic pH is also the underlying factor in many chronic, degenerative diseases like diabetes, arthritis, cardiovascular diseases, pre-aging, autoimmune diseases, chronic fatigue, etc. But it is easy to correct our pH and improve our health.

Food can be classified into acid forming or alkaline forming which means the pH condition they create in the body after being digested. For a list of acid or alkaline forming food, you can check it out at A List of Acid/Alkaline Forming Food.

When your body is healthy, you will feel vibrant, lots of energy, high mental clarity, good digestion, no body aches and pains and a lean trim body. It’s all worth your time and effort to eat and live healthy. In fact, eating and living healthy shouldn’t be seen as a burden. It should be taken as a joy and a lifestyle. No one can help you but yourself. But we can all be a support and an encouragement to one another.

Right, back to my favourite healthy cocktail drink. It takes you the most 1 minute to make it and it’s very alkalising to the body.

Apple cider vinegar and honey

Apple cider vinegar and honey

Bragg’s apple cider vinegar helps balance pH, alkalizing your body and making it an unfriendly host for yeast infections and other bacteria and virus invasion. Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar is a very high quality vinegar because it is raw and not distilled or pasteurised. Raw vinegar is the only vinegar that is alkaline forming in the body. Raw honey is another alkaline forming food. Put together this drink is one of the most amazing healthy and alkalising drinks to enjoy. Regular consumption of this drink can help to prevent and even cure many diseases.

For generations, honey has known to be a great health food. A 70+ healthy friend of mine told me the other day that honey is an awesome health food. He told me his cousins all live to about 100 years old….wow! I asked him what’s the secret. He replied, ‘HONEY!’ And it is raw honey, still with the honey comb. He told me if he visits his cousin again, who live further north, he will get a bottle for me. Awwww….so sweet of him!

According to Paul Braggs, Apple Cider Vinegar is a ‘perfect food’:

Natural (undistilled) organic, raw ACV can really be called one of Mother Nature’s most perfect foods, the worlds first natural medicine. It is made from fresh, crushed apples which are then allowed to mature naturally in wooden barrels, as wood tends to “boost” the natural fermentation. Research worldwide supports and commends what Hippocrates (the father of medicine) found and treated his patients with in 400 B.C. He discovered that natural, undistilled Apple Cider Vinegar (or ACV)* is a powerful cleansing and healing elixir – a naturally occurring antibiotic and antiseptic that fights germs, bacteria, mold and viruses – for a healthier, stronger, longer life!

My Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey drink recipe is very easy and simple:

Ingredients
2T raw honey
2T Bragg’s Apple Cider Vinegar
2C water

Put all a big mug. Add warm water. Not too hot please. Otherwise you will kill all the live enzymes in it. Stir well and enjoy.

Oh, before I forget. I was told that you should never use a metal spoon to scoop honey. I use a plastic spoon. You can also use a wooden spoon. I read that raw honey itself is acidic (alkaline forming after digestion) and it will react with a metal spoon.

This vinegar and honey is not only good in drinks but great as a dressing too. It’s my favourite and I use it all the time. You can check that out in my previous post My Best Smoked Salmon and Cheese Salad.

This is just a little info that I share here. Please read up more yourself about raw apple cider vinegar, raw honey and blood pH. You can get lots of information from the internet. Read to increase knowledge so that you can make good choices for yourself and your family. It costs too much pain, heartache, time and money to be sick. Prevention is better than cure. And don’t forget to keep smiling. It takes less energy….*big smiles*.

Till then, see you in my next post.

Quote of the day……

TasteHongKong  on September 26th, 2012

Regret that I haven’t drunk honey and apple cider vinegar in such decent amount though they too sit in my pantry, perhaps I should do a pH test before and after increasing the daily intake : ).
Thanks for sharing, Mary!

@suituapui - Good that you have them in the house. Time to use it up :D Yes, you need to dilute with water. You can adjust the vinegar and the honey. I don’t like it too sour so I add more honey. To me equal amount of vinegar and honey works for me.

@claire - Oh my gosh….you drank the apple cider vinegar without honey? I would have jumped through my ceiling….haha. Hope you start drinking again. It can help us stay young and youthful :D

@Ann@Anncoo Journal - Yes, this is a healthy drink, good for the body. Hope you will start soon :D

@Lirang - Ya, give it a try. It’s also expensive here. I find that it’s so much cheaper back home. But for health it’s worth it :D

@Katerina - You are most welcome, Katerina. I hope it benefits everyone as much as it has benefitted me and my family :D

@somewhere in singapore - Yes, give a try. It’s good for you :D

@Mich - Piece of Cake - Yes, do give this drink a try. I hope you like it :D

@Blackswan - Haha….no lian teh. I’m hopeless in making Chinese drink! I only know very little. Will post one soon :D

@TasteHongKong - Would be interesting to do a pH test first.
Hope you’ll start using up your apple cider vinegar and honey. I just love drinking it :D

Howdy Mary! Hope you are all well on your side. Wow, this is a very informative post. Thanks so much for sharing it. Other than that enzyme drinks works as good as apple cider. It was recommended by a Thai Monk to a local cancer patient years ago and it helps to cure his disease successfully after one year time. Miracle does happened huh!
Btw, wishing you & your family a very Happy Mid Autumn Festival Mary. Enjoy & have a fabulous time.
Blessings
Kristy

This is interesting - I must give it a try as I have all the ingredients. I remember my grandma used to say it’s nice to have vinegar in body everyday. Honey and apple cider vinegar sounds good!

noobcook  on October 3rd, 2012

I drink this everyday too, without the honey! it’s very healthy.

Cheah  on October 5th, 2012

This looks easy enough to make …. but I think I better have it early as I don’t want to wake up and go to the toilet in the middle of the night!
