Chocolate rice pudding

Chocolate rice pudding

I have a wonderful Egyptian friend who almost always brings her special homemade rice pudding to our ladies’ pot luck parties. It is just so good….creamy and smooth…mmmm. So you can imagine how delighted I was when I received some rice pudding samples from Nestle Carnation……a normal one and a chocolate one. I always use the Nestle Carnation condensed milk and the evaporated milk but had not tried the rice pudding. In fact I never realised such a thing existed…haha. So I was excited to try.

I had never had rice pudding until I came here. I only remember that I had rice porridge mixed with condensed milk when I was young and I liked that very much. But the rice pudding here is more creamy.

I read the instructions and found it was really easy to follow.

Pudding rice (normal one)

Pudding rice (original one)

Just pour the contents into a small pot. I cooked both the original type and the chocolate type. It’s the same way to cook them.

Add 270ml of milk and bring to boil. Keep stirring. After a few minutes, maybe 5 minutes (I forgot to check the time), cover it and leave for 5 minutes. Just cook till the rice is quite soft. Dish it up and serve.  It takes about 10 minutes altogether.

Creamy rice pudding

This rice pudding is really simple and easy to cook. I find it creamy and delicious. Personally I find that the chocolate rice pudding is really chocolatey and delicious. It doesn’t taste too sweet. I find that the original one is a little too sweet for me. But for those who have a sweet tooth, this would be perfect.

The Nestle Carnation Rice Pudding range showcases four varieties - Original, Cinnamon, Chocolate and Caramel. Each packet contains a dessert mix, which transforms into a creamy tasting, homemade dessert by simply adding fresh milk, whisking and heating in the microwave or on the hob.

The different varieties in the Nestle carnation Rice Pudding range taste great on their own – but you can also try adding fruit, a spoonful of homemade jam or even a few chocolate sprinkles as a treat.  Or try using Nestle Carnation Evaporated Milk to create an even creamier tasting pudding.

The range is free from artificial colours, flavours, preservatives and sweeteners. The Original, Cinnamon and Caramel varieties are also low in fat. Each pack contains enough rice pudding to make 2 servings and cost about 80p per packet.

So, if you like something quick, creamy and filling, give this a try. Have fun cooking!

Don’t think I had rice pudding before…other than the pulut hitam (black glutinous rice) dessert.

The only rice pudding that I remembered making was those that I fed to my kids when they were young lol! not so nice I think as I had a difficult time getting them to eat:P These look much tastier!

I didn’t know that they had rice pudding in packages. The chocolate rice pudding looks yummy!

I think rice pudding is an acquired taste, just like durian. Having practically grown up all my life in Canada, I was introduced to rice pudding quite early on in my life and have grown to like it. Hubs on the other hand just recently got introduced to it and didn’t like it at all.

I never even knew Carnation made rice pudding. Like you, I usually use their condensed milk and evaporated milk. Their rice pudding does look yummy too. Chocolate for me please…teehee. Thanks for introducing me to these, Mary.

@suituapui - You can give this one a try. Maybe you will like it :D Maybe I am the younger generation….hehe…and that’s why I got to eat at least the rice porridge with condensed milk which is quite close. I love the pulut hitam. That is just so delicious with the coconut milk…mmm.

@Jeannie - Your children sure knows what is nice…haha. We had no choice but to eat what my mom fed us. It’s either eat or go hungry! You can give the chocolate one a try. I actually like it :D

@Becky - I think it’s quite new in the market. But for me, I didn’t notice it before. I always just grab the evaporated milk and off I go :D

@Mistletoe Tattoo ;) - I like rice so I know I’ll like this pudding but not if it’s too sweet. The chocolate one suits my taste. I think your hubby doesn’t like it cos he probably thinks it’s baby food….LOL. Yes, go for the chocolate one! :D

@Angie@Angie’s Recipes - Maybe you can give this a try. Just wonder if it’s available in your place. Hope you like it :D

@Blackswan - You are very right, Shirley. Even kids can cook. Just need supervision. Have to stir constantly, so can keep them out of trouble too :D

@peteformation - Hope can find over on your side. I think your kids will like it. Otherwise you have to cook from scratch :D

@lena - I think they are more like sweet rice porridge except that it’s creamy and more flavour. Maybe you can give it a try maybe you will like it :D

@Katerina - That’s really interesting to know. Bet you have all different types of flavour :D

Hi Mary ♥

Mhummm :) Rice pudding! This is one of my favorite desserts! Sometimes I eat it for breakfast :) I served with a red fruit sauce, or caramel with spices, or caramel with salted butter! And nature too :) This is too, too, too good!

I’m not very present, but it should not last too long! I will return to the path of my favorite blogs (including yours ♥) and that of my mailbox!

I hope you are well!

Take good care of you!

Lots of kisses ♥
