Lamb cutlets in BBQ sauce

Lamb cutlets in BBQ sauce

My family loves to eat lamb but then I am just not very good when comes to cooking lamb. When my hubby asked for lamb to be included in the BBQ instead of the usual chicken and sausages, I felt a little stressed up. Then I remembered I have a bottle of Schwartz lamb seasoning which has been lying there for quite a while. That should come into good use but I felt that’s not enough. So I added more ingredients to make it a marinade rather than just a dry rub.

The next day we barbecued some. It was delicious but not to say super delicious. I left the rest to marinade another 2 days, not because I purposely did that but because I forgot about it. I baked it. To tell you, my family liked it VERY much. It was really very delicious…tender and full of flavour and taste. Next time when I cook this lamb again, I will marinade and purposely leave in the fridge to marinade a few days more before cooking. Baking is still the best. It’s not greasy as in frying and also little to wash.

Here is my simple Lamb Cutlet With BBQ Marinade recipe. You can barbecue it, pan fry it or bake it. Now if you don’t like lamb, I think you can use this lamb BBQ marinade for other meat even though there’s lamb seasoning in the marinade. It’s just like you can use the Schwartz Steakhouse seasoning for any meat, including fish. I had tried that for beef and also wild Alaskan salmon as in Easy To Make Salad - For Health And Weight Lose and they all came out very delicious.

Ingredients
16 pieces lamb cutlets (4 x 800g packets)
4T Schwartz Lamb seasoning
8T brown sugar
6T tomato sauce
2T chili sauce
juice of 2 lemons
juice of 1 orange
4T olive oil

BBQ marinade

Put all the ingredients (except the lamb) into a bowl. Mix well.

Add the lamb pieces and leave it to marinade a few hours, preferably overnight. Then barbecue, pan fry or bake it.

Here, I baked it at 200 degrees Celsius for about 20 minutes. Serve hot. It’s really delicious. I will have to make this again in my next BBQ. I would marinade more….some for BBQ and some for dinner a few days later.

Mary, my husband would be drooling over this! He loves lamb! I’ll have to ask him for his marinade and share with you some time. He’s not allowed to roast lamb in the house, I make him BBQ outside unless it’s really cold out then he’s allowed to roast it inside. He still goes outside to BBQ it though. Sometimes he can be very sweet. But then he still likes to use vinegar to clean stuff and I can’t stand the vinegar smell either. I just don’t understand men sometimes. Lol. Next time we BBQ I should try this on my steak. Sounds really delicious. Thanks for your marinade recipe!

Pandy: maybe I should call you Kung Fu Panda now. Haha. You put up a good fight. Somebody kalah again, but always with smiles when kalah to such a comel Pandy :D. Good win. I’ll be back!

You just can’t beat a good marinade and it looks like you got a good one going here, perfect in fact. I tell folks all the time how important the sugar/salt/acid ratio needs to be correct in order to break down the meat fibers and induce liquid into the meat whereby plumping everything up nice and juicy… but even I am surprised that it did not break down too much after 2 days….wow..

@Pandy beat Superman - Yes, you are! You are super fast this time! :D Yes, you really have to write down the list of food that you want to eat when you come again. I don’t think I can remember all :P

@pigpigscorner - Yes, it was just delicious! :D

@kitchen flavours - Give this a try. Hope you like it. I am going to make this more often :D

@Supergirl was here (too late) - Now, it looks like men loves to eat lamb….haha. Or I think they just like to eat meat! So poor thing, your hubby…being chased out of the house if he wants to eat lamb. I better stay out of lamb when you come :P I’ll use the marinade for chicken breast meat for you when you come :D Pandy sure took up a good fight to win at last.

@sweetlife - Thanks very much, Bonnie! Have fun cooking :D

@Drick - Awww…..that’s so encouraging to hear from you, Drick! :D You are always so encouraging and supportive. I actually don’t know theory. I am just amazed at how you explained it…wow. Thanks very much!

Yum! I’m usually not the biggest lamb fan, but this sounds delicious!

wok with ray  on July 20th, 2011

Hi Mary,

I don’t eat lamb that much but only with a good recipe. I am wondering if I can buy the same rub here where I live or equivalent. To be honest, I didn’t know that they make rubs specifically for lambs, how interesting Mary. Thank you for sharing. Take care Mary! :)

5 Star Foodie  on July 20th, 2011

The lamb cutlets must be super flavorful with this BBQ marinade, nice!

Angie's Recipes  on July 21st, 2011

The lamb looks so so so tender and succulent!

divya  on July 21st, 2011

Wowww.. Delicious looking dish.. Simply inviting dear.

Mary  on July 22nd, 2011

@serena @bigapplenosh - Give a try, Serena! Hope you like it :D

@wok with ray - I really hope you can find it over at your place. Otherwise, I believe you can use some other lamb seasoning from other brands. This is the first time I use ready lamb seasoning. It’s easy to use but if you make it yourself, I believe it would be much cheaper. Have fun cooking! :D

@Angie’s Recipes - Thanks very much, Angie! :D

@divya - Thanks very much, Divya! :D

Janice  on July 22nd, 2011

kristy  on July 25th, 2011

Now Mary, this is making me salivate for sure. Haven’t taken lamb for so so long. I’m not that kind of carnivor…crazy about meat. But I would love to have it if someone prepare it for me. hahaha…. I know I know…what an excuse! :o)
Hope you’re having a great week ahead, dear.
