Delicious Thai Beef Salad

Delicious Thai Beef Salad

Here’s my promise to post my Simple And Easy Thai Beef Salad which my family likes very much. I made it for my daughter’s birthday last week. In fact we had it for the next 3 days. To read more about my daughters birthday and what I cooked for her, click on Daughter’s Birthday And A Special Friend. This is also an easy and impressive dish to prepare if you have a party.

The beef slices are very tender and flavourful and they blend with the salad very well. You can omit the beef if you want it purely vegetarian. The dressing is fabulous. It makes the salad taste so lip-smacking good. Here’s my Simple And Easy Thai Beef Salad recipe:

Ingredients A
2 pieces beef rump steak (about 300g)
1/2t salt some ground black pepper
1T oil

Pan fry the beef steaks

Pan fry the beef steaks

Sprinkle the salt, pepper and oil onto both sides of the steak. Heat up some oil in a frying pan and pan fry it until to the right texture you prefer. I love mine just done but do not overcook otherwise the beef will become tough.

Slice the beef thinly

Slice the beef thinly

Dish up. Let it cool down and then slice it thin.

Ingredients B
1 packet salad (about 200 g)
1/2 cucumber (de-seeded and sliced into short thin strips)
1 small purple onion (peeled and sliced thinly)
1/2C coriander (washed and chopped roughly)

Beautiful, fresh and healthy salad

Mix all Ingredients B in a big salad bowl. If you are serving this for a party like what I did, you can prepare this ahead of time and just put the whole bowl into the fridge. Add the dressing before serving.

Ingredients C (Dressing)

2 pieces garlic (peeled and chopped)
1T sugar
1/2T fish sauce
Juice of half lemon
2T olive oil
2T Thai sweet chilli sauce

Thai Beef Salad dressing

Mix all Ingredients C in a bowl. Pour over the salad and mix just before serving. If you like you can also toast some cashew nuts and sprinkle over the salad. You can also use hot chili sauce if you like it spicy. A little fragrant hot chili oil will give it a good punch.

Hi Mary,

Guess what I shall be having for dinner tonight? Yes, your Thai Beef Salad. I took out a slab of sirloin steak from the freezer this morning before going to work and is mulling over what I should do with it. I can’t wait as I have all the ingredients you have listed. It’s nice to have some meat and lots of vegetables, so no complaints from the other half who is a meat eater… Thanks for sharing.

Hi Mary!

Sorry I keep changing my name, but you know my crazy by now ;). Loving this Thai beef salad. I’ve had a slightly different version before and it was so appetizing. Mmm…stinky, smelly, but oh so yummy fish sauce. The magical sauce used in so many Asian dishes. If put in the right hands —> magic. If put in my hands —> disaster. Haha. I broke half a bottle in my kitchen before and oh my gosh —> major clean up. You better believe I used half a spray container of Febreze. I know, it’s used for fabric, but that was all I had at the time. Much cheaper than perfume :P. Another yummy recipe as always, my dear.

The only beef that I like is beef rendang. But now I like this beef salad…so simple and easy, yet delicious :D Give a try, Claire. Hope you like it.

@anncoo - Yes, me, too. Have been eating big bowls. What a lovely way to eat more salad! :D

@rebecca - Thanks very much, Rebecca! :D

Gosh Mary, that really is an easy recipe. I remember years ago someone gave us a steak salad for dinner, but it had a sour cream based dressing as I recall. I love the Thai flavors in the dressing.

Joy  on July 6th, 2011

The salad looks wonderful.

Wonderful recipe! I used to love this when I could still eat meat but after being diagnosed with C, I’ve turned to veggies and fish on occasion.

@Barbara - Yes, this is really easy, Barbara. I have made it many times since. Yesterday I made a big bowl of sauce to put in the fridge so that I don’t have to make every time. It’s just getting easier :D Looks like I won;t do so much vegetable stir fries now….hehe

@Joy - Thanks very much, Joy! :D

@Wok with Ray - Thanks very much, Ray! I find it’s also very delicious with salmon. I served it to my friends and they liked it very much, with the salmon. I think I will try with prawns one day…my favourite prawns…mmm :D

@Yummy bakes - Oh, you can try with other meat. I have tried with salmon and it was fabulous, too. Have fun eating salad! :D

@momgateway - I’m so glad to know that you have recovered from C. Eating more raw and healthy food would be very recommend then. This salad would be a great choice without the meat. It’s also great with wild salmon. You can give this a try. Please take care. Have fun eating healthy! :D
