First of all thanks very much for all the ‘Congrats’ on my previous post, My Big Dream And My Friends, about my new adventure into food business…..a self-made chef at last….*BIG SMILE*. I was smiling so happily all the way as I read each comment. Thanks very much for all the good wishes, support and encouragement. There may be stormy days along the way but I know I can always count on your support. Thanks a zillion, friends!!
Well, it is still early days into my business but I am totally enjoying it though it can be exhausting and challenging at times. I am still trying to get more organised. The order has been going on well, not too overly overwhelming that I can’t cope. Hearing of good comments from my customers about my food is my greatest encouragement and motivation. While being busy with my present menu, I am working hard on another menu to add on. I think the greatest fun is to test and create recipes. That must be using up a lot of my brain cells…in a good way!
Just 2 weekends ago, we (my family) had an awesome time. We took up a stall at The Aberdeen International Fun Day Mela at Duthie Park. I shared the stall with Muna, another Malaysian blogger here in Aberdeen. I mentioned about her in my previous post, too. Both our food went down very well! We really had a lot of fun.
I sold curry puffs, char siu puffs, Malaysian chicken rice and nasi lemak. My 2 girls were there to help and we were almost serving non-stop for 4 hours despite the very strong wind that we had to battle with. We had to take down the gazebo finally because it was dangerously giving way even with 4 adults trying to hold it down. At one point, my tray of eggs just flew off from the table. A kind lady helped me to pick them up from the grass. Amazingly they didn’t break! But my jar of sauce for the chicken rice wasn’t so lucky. It toppled over…..*sob sob*. But thankfully I had another jar. That was a great relief. See, always have back up plan. Having extra is always better than not having enough.
The picture above, The Malaysian Food Stall, was taken towards the end of the food fare where most of the food on the table were sold out and without the gazebo. I made about 100 char siu puffs and 100 chicken curry puffs and they were all sold out in about 1 and 1/2 hours time! I was shocked at the response. Many came to buy one each and came back again to buy more.
Best of all was when a news reporter came by curious to know more and to take pictures. We were of course so happy and excited. Next day, what a thrill!….our picture came out in The Press & Journal…..my daughter holding a plate of nasi lemak! (top picture). It’s our 2 seconds fame in Aberdeen….so said my girl….first time !!!! You can read more about it from her blog Food Fun And 2 Second Of Fame.
Greater motivation…we actually earned quite a lot from that 4 hours! I was so tired when I reached home but my girls were just too excited to count the money….haha. Yes, it was a great sight……*big smiles*. If there’s anything, I am very happy that my girls were greatly inspired. They have seen the reward of hard work and opportunity, making use of free time to learn something, get passionate about it and make money out of it. NOW they really want my recipes….haha……*BIG SMILES*!
Well, that’s not all about the excitement. I received a parcel…all the way from Singapore…….from Ann at Anncoo Journal. What a big surprise and thrill! I just love everything inside including a note to congratulate me on the start of my food business! SO sweet of her! Ann always seems to know what I like. I love all those cute shopping pads in fruit shapes. I love that cute cat ticket holder too. That would come so helpful when I travel. I always have a hard time looking for my air ticket when I travel alone. That is just so beautiful and handy.
And of course I REALLY like that shopping bag. I love those types of foldable bags. They are so convenient to keep and to use. I love to collect them. I have several of them and in each one of them, I have cookbooks….different types of cookbooks in different bags!!! I would carry different ones when I go out to sit and chill out in cafes. So, needless to say, there are already a few cookbooks in this one….*big smile*. Thanks very, very much, Ann!
Looks like excitement never ends here. My best friend’s daughter, Joyce, came all the way from Malaysia to visit…what total joy! She is also Sharon’s (my daughter) best friend. I’ll write about her stay…food and fun….in another post. It was total joy to have her around. She is just such a sweet and lovely friend. She had so much fun here that she extended her holidays…another 2 extra days!! Sadly, she had to leave yesterday. We really miss her. But we videoed her making her promise to come back next year…a much longer holiday….yeah!!
And talking about friends visiting from far, I’ve just received news that a very dear friend from a very far place is coming by to visit in August…tickets all confirmed….wow!! To tell you the truth, it’s my biggest surprise of all. I have to see her in August to know that I am not dreaming. I will have lots to talk about it then because I think Aberdeen will turn upside down because of her…haha.
Oh yes, while Joyce was here, we wanted to cook curry laksa…..one of her favourites. After getting all the things ready, I found that I don’t have the curry laksa paste….so gutted!!! But believe it or not, the next day I received a bag of goodies from a very dear friend. She won’t let me mention her name here….hmmmm. I think I better don’t…save my neck…haha. Yes, 2 packets of curry laksa paste….just how timely! It has never been so timely. Immediately we cooked curry laksa the next day. We used the Johor laksa paste. It was SERIOUSLY good!! Everyone was going like….’Mmmmmm, this is just sooooo good’…as they enjoyed it all till the last drop of the soup. I used corn fed chicken and home made egg noodles. So sorry no picture here because we were just so excited to eat that I completely forgot to take pictures! Well, it happens all the time….*wink*. Whatever it is, now I must find a way to get that Johor laksa paste.
No, that’s not all of what I received. I received some bottles and packets of spices from Schwartz, a very popular brand here. I love spices so you can imagine how happy I was to receive them. Of course I couldn’t wait to try them. It was just SO good and so easy to use. I think I will leave my cooking and recipe to the next post….very soon I promise. Hope you don’t miss that one.
And lastly, talking about fairy godmother who is always there with surprise gifts for us. I had a real surprise visit from the Fairy Hobmother of Appliances Online who sells cookers and other appliances informing me that I had a gift waiting for me. Initially I thought it can’t be true. But when I received a £30 Amazon voucher from the Fairy Hobmother, I had to believe it’s true. I am just so thankful and happy. I’m going to use it to buy something nice for myself. Thanks very much, Fairy Hobmother!!
Now the great news, especially if you are from UK. If you leave a comment here below, you stand the chance of being visited by the Fairy Hobmother, too. You never know. You may be the next lucky one to receive something nice. And even if not, I would love to read your comments……*big smile*.
Wow….so many things happened over the past couple of weeks! I just don’t understand how I got through all that…haha. It looks like I was cooking all the time (for home and my food business) and out of the house with Joyce visiting places and ladies fun lunch in between. Life can’t be any better! It’s meaningful and fulfilling! I’ll have to get back onto my blog more often with my cooking and recipes soon. I try to do more quick cooking these days to fit into my busy schedule.
Thanks very much again for visiting and leaving comments. Hope you have a great start to the week. Have fun cooking and eating! Cooking not only feeds hungry stomachs and puts smiles on faces but you never know where it will take you to. I hope you Keep Learning and Keep Smiling!!
