A Day Of Madness

Baking and eating is therapeutic
I’m sure everyone goes through certain days of madness. It happens to me every now and then. It may wipe away my smiles for a while but it shouldn’t be there to stay. It’s important to keep smiling. Life must go on. People may annoy and irritate us, even loved ones, but make sure you wear a bullet-proof emotion jacket. Problems and unpleasant circumstances will always confront us but they must roll off from us like water from a duck’s back.
I thought I was going to have a relaxing day yesterday. It started well with a relaxing morning. But things soon turned out on the contrary. After lunch, I thought I needed to do some marketing and visit a book shop. Just when I reached the supermarket, my daughter called asking me to come home because she was locked out. Why didn’t she call earlier or why didn’t she bring her keys??? Disappointed, I quickly grab a few things and rushed home. It was very cold and I didn’t want her to get chilled standing outside the house. That’s what mothers are made of…to be tough and super. I should own a jet plane to get home fast! Well, what did I get? A cheeky grin and an apologetic ‘Mom, I’m sorry!’
I rested a little while before I started preparation for dinner. Just when I was about to cook, my beloved husband called, “Get ready. You don’t have to cook. I’m coming home now. We are going to watch ‘The King’s Speech’.” HUH…CRAZY MAN! No, I didn’t shout that into the phone. I answered ‘ok’, rather reluctantly. When he put down the phone, I looked into the phone and said, “You crazy man!” I sounded stupid, right? It was so cold and I would rather be at home. I had to put all the food into the fridge. So glad I had not started cooking otherwise I would smell real bad before I went out. Well, that’s what wives are made of….to be tough and super. What did I get? Another cheeky smile and, “You should be happy that you don’t have to cook.” Actually I would rather cook!
As if that’s not enough, I found out someone stole my post on my salmon dish…word for word and even the pictures, together with the watermark!! Of course I was angry and still am. I’ll handle that soon. It’s just totally rude. This is not the first time. Cool down, Mary, cool down. Content thefts happen all the time. It happened before and it will happen again.

Vietnamese spring rolls

Vietnamese tofu mushroom noodle soup
Well, we sure had dinner outside. I had Vietnamese food. I love the spring rolls and the tofu and mushroom noodle soup. That was very satisfying. Maybe because I was very hungry. But I know LeQuan at luvtoeat can cook way better Vietnamese food than that. Don’t believe me? Just check it out on her blog. I hope she will cook for me one day…..*smiling*
After food, I thought I would love a cup of coffee. Went to a stall and bought myself a cup of mocha. My gosh…the waitress there was really rough and rude. She really shouldn’t be working there. I feel so sorry for her…..bad working attitude. She is actually rather pretty but her personality just made her look bad. I wish she had taken a look at the mirror. Well, maybe she is also going through a day of madness like me!
Then the show, ‘The King’s Speech‘. Wow…it was a really good show I must say. No wonder it was crowned the best picture at the Oscar awards. It keeps you sitting straight on the chair from beginning to end. I think my heart must have missed a few beats many times throughout the show when each time the King started to stammer. You just wanted to shout, ‘Common, you can do it!’ Then his speech therapist reminded me of a very dear friend, in look and personality. This amazing show wiped away all my regrets in going out at such a time and weather.
By the time I arrived home, it was 10.30pm. I needed to spoil myself so I made a flourless chocolate cake. That was my second time making this cake within a few days. Tell you something. Baking and eating is very therapeutic! The first picture above was what I had before I went to bed….very moist and delicious, made more chocolatey by the chocolate sauce and shaved dark chocolate on top. I just felt SO good, happy and satisfied after indulging in it. Of course I shared with my beloved hubby. He deserved a good slice for bringing me to the show. I think chocolate stimulates our bodies to produce happy hormones…hehe.
What a day of madness!! But you can turn it into a day of joy. For me, but baking and chocolate helped. When the going gets tough, Start Baking and Keep Smiling! Hope you have a wonderful day. Actually I wonder what I dreamt last night. I hope I didn’t stammer in my dreams like the King…haha

Did that person state that it’s from your blog?
j3ss kitch3n on March 1st, 2011
ah i really hate it when ppl steals our posts without our consent! and i bet you are extremely angry but somehow its not worth getting angry with them! these are just foolish and stupid ppl cool down Mary!
Ginny Hartzler on March 1st, 2011
Oh, what a day you had!!! But the cake looks delicious!! They have found a chemical in chocolate that makes us feel like we are in love. I have just been thinking of going to see The Kings Speech! so what a coincidence that you have talked about going!!
Esther on March 1st, 2011
What a long day! I’m glad it ended on a happy note though.
I’m sorry to hear that someone stole your post. I can’t believe people do that. Well, at least that person was, dare I say, stupid enough to leave the watermark and everything still on. People will all know he/she is a fraud now. The cake looks so delicious and the spring rolls too. Btw, I should have asked you earlier, but should I call you Auntie Mary or just Mary? I feel uncomfortable on how to address you because if I met you in person, I would say “Ah yi hao” Thank you.
Have a great day!
LeQuan on March 1st, 2011
Wow! What a day indeed, Mary! I’m sorry about your post getting stolen :(. People seriously need to grow up, write for themselves, or give credit where credit is due! Even if I use someone’s recipe and post what I make on FB, I always link to the post or I’d just feel too guilty. I’m so mad for you! You go and release all your anger on them, you deserve to.
I’m glad you and your hubby were able to enjoy a great movie together. That’s a luxury for hubby and I these days. Having young ones certain demands a lot of sacrifices. I may regret saying this, but I cannot wait to get to the cheeky grins stage. As moms we always lose and forgive.
Good for you for treating yourself to such a delicious cake. I must shamefully disagree though, baking is more hair pulling for me. Let’s just say if I remember to turn on my oven, it’s a good day. Haha. Until I become as skilled as you, then it will become therapeutic. Eating, on the other hand is very therapeutic :-D. You’re such a sweetie Mary, thank you for the mention. Hope you will have a much better day tomorrow. No cheeky grin here, but a big smile, see —>
and a big hug for your bad day.
LeQuan on March 1st, 2011
PS
You’re nice enough to wait till hubby hangs up and then yell at him. I yell at hubby and then he hangs up. Lol.
Swathi on March 1st, 2011
sorry for the plagiarism what we can do there are shameless people who don’t care about others works simply steal that is their motive. chocolate cake looks delicious.
Little Inbox on March 2nd, 2011
Yes, agree.
I purposely take a day off today. Stay at home alone. Cook up whatever I like. Watch as many cooking show as I want. I need all this to cheer me up after a series of breathless hectic working.
Otherwise, I don’t know how to continue.
suituapui on March 2nd, 2011
Wah! Food looks good… No need to cook, should be happy mah…and go dating with darling. Somebody stole your post? Wah! You’re so famous lah - nobody will steal anything from me… Hehehehehe!!

What! again some ppl stole your post? Just wonder why they can’t do something on their own and give you a credit to you ![]()
That’s a rich and tempting choc cake Mary. I would be happy to have a slice before my bed time and have a good sweet dream ![]()

Oh, Mary, you have a way to cheer yourself up after a day with tons of madness. Have to learn from you, seriously.

What a lovely spread, Mary. Hope you had a great time.
Muna on March 2nd, 2011
Oh no, not you too!
Photo theft is quite rampant nowadays.
A blogger-friend had his photo published in a “reputable” Malaysian magazine a while back, neither permission was asked nor acknowledgement was given….
Glad to know you had an enjoyable day after all that. ![]()

the picture of the choc really tempt me and i want to eat it too! (:
your husband is so sweet to you (:
the person is so rude! didnt even bother to credit or seek permission?! you know im also feeling unhappy about this. i found out this person who write like the recipe is his/hers but is not. i saw it from a book! and the person make he/she seem so creative and great. i really dont understand why they are so childish! anyway, when the person does that, it only mean that your work is awesome and they can only remain as a copycat! (:
Angie's Recipes on March 2nd, 2011
o Mary, I did that to my mom too…well, I told her not to rush, just finished shopping and came home directly…but she couldn’t concentrate any more and went home immediately…..hehe..your hubby is pretty sweet, I think..hopefully that you enjoyed the movie. And about the stolen content…I know how disturbing this could be…:-(
Noodle looks delicious!
Cheers,
Angie
Mary on March 2nd, 2011
@Belinda @zomppa - Yes, again…no credit!
There are sure lots of lazy bones out there who love to steal to make money. I need more cakes to cheer up
@somewhere in singapore - No! Well, I’ve written asking for it to be removed. Just wait and see what happens before I take further action. Just have to Keep Smiling
@j3ss kitch3n - Oh yes, it’s definitely not worth getting angry. Just a little upset. Actually feel sorry for such a type of person. Jess, you have already cheered me up by being so supportive and caring
@Ginny Hartzler - Oh wow….didn’t know that. I need to eat more chocolate then…haha. Yes, you must really go and watch The King’s Speech. It’s really good
@Esther - Thanks very much, Esther! Awww….you are just so sweet
You can just call me ‘Mary’, any time and any where I’m 17 every year….hehe
@LeQuan - Awww….LeQuan…you are always so sweet. You just make me feel so much better
You need to be my body guard!
I need a sandbag to punch and then more cakes….haha. LeQuan, you should move here and be my neighbour. I can help you to babysit while you & your hubby can sometimes go and enjoy movies. Kids grow up very fast…too fast…. and soon they want to be with their friends. One day you will tell me this…hehe. It’s better to bake than to have a sleepless night.
LeQuan - Love what you said, “You’re nice enough to wait till hubby hangs up and then yell at him. I yell at hubby and then he hangs up. Lol.” LeQuan, that’s SO funny! I love that. I must try next time and see how my hubby reacts
I think it will snow immediately…..haha
@Swathi - Yes, lots of content thieves around! Just hope it doesn’t happen again. My chocolate cake sure helped to cheer me up
@Little Inbox - Wow…you sure know how to pamper yourself. I think we do need that every now and then to refresh ourselves and to replenish back the energy
@suituapui - Yes, I should be happy but it spoiled my plans. I never like last minute changes especially when I can’t get ready in time. My hubby is quite famous for that! Famous?? I wish I am famous in the real sense. I think I am just unlucky to be picked
@anncoo - Yes, how annoying to find out another of my post was stolen. Glad my chocolate cake helped. Imagine eat cake in the middle of the night? Only happens once in a blue moon…haha
@Christine@Christine’s Recipes - I hope it doesn’t happen again so soon! Maybe should make more cakes to put on standby first….haha
@Sanjeeta kk - Thanks very much Sanjeeta!
@Muna - Oh wow…that’s just so shameful! Well, too many lazy people around who can’t be bother to work hard themselves. Hope it doesn’t happen again otherwise I will get fat eating so much cake..haha
@Jasmine - Thanks very much, Jasmine! You are just so sweet. Well, people use stolen post to make money. We have to try and catch them. Hope it doesn’t happen again. In the mean time, I’ll bake more
@Angie’s Recipes - Oh, you did that, too! Sharon will be grinning to read this…haha. Oh yes, the show was really good. I don’t mind to watch another couple of times ![]()

Drooling, drooling and drooling here, wat a fabulous spread..
Dongxing on March 2nd, 2011
Mary, baking is not so therapeutic for me but let me tell you, EATING is!!! Especially that chocolate cake, and eating it at night just before bed time is what I call decandent and indulgent. Fantastic!!! I hope you feel better today.
claire on March 2nd, 2011
So u better retrieve back your words.. “crazy husband” hahaha… your night was well spent after all..
sorry to read that someone stole your salmon post and pictures and all.. by the way, how do u find out?
kristy on March 2nd, 2011
Whoa, after looking at your chocolate dessert. I definitely won’t be angry no more! haha…. What a day! Yeah, I know. It happens to me all the time… almost everyday. You see, my boy finish school at 1pm and my girl is at 2pm. Sometimes, she might be early because no afternoon classes..probably teacher ponteng!*sigh* After I picked up my boy 5 mins later, she called up asking me to pick her up. Then I have to turn back and pick her up. So very tired, you know! Then tuition & school activities some more. Imagine that! ACtually, I just finished watching ‘The Tourist’ & ‘Burlesque’. I love both. Johnny Depp has been my favourite eversince I was a teenager. Remember he was acting in ‘21 Jump Street’ drama. He was so cute back then. I am looking forward to watch ‘The King’s Speech’ too. Getting really excited! Thanks for sharing. Hope you’re having a lovely day.
Blessings, Kristy

Hi Mary-I enjoyed reading your post, and I’m so sorry that someone stole your watermarked photo and post. You would think they would at least ask permission first.
Your cake is decadent, and so beautiful. I would find eating the cake as total “therapy”…instead of making it, which for me is a “chore”. I would rather cook, than bake.
Also love the spring rolls, and the comforting soup!
5 Star Foodie on March 2nd, 2011
Mary, so sorry about your crazy day and it’s outrageous that someone stole your post
The chocolate cake looks so good, definitely the way to go!
plllisa on March 2nd, 2011
well not only good show, splendid performance from Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush. i love Colin F. from his Mr. Darcy day in BBC Pride and Prejudice. i love that show, me and my flatmates were marathon-ing episode after episode. those days…watched during dinner time, losing sleep rewatching it and discussing it before leaving for classes. yup, that’s my Mr. Darcy so yeah cheers that he won the oscar, so deserving it. i have the same reaction as yours, so anticipating for him to finally blurts out some words, mainly swearing oh love that part. i will called it a real film when it can make you cry and laugh and smile and anxious at the same time. that’s how i felt seriously!
oh well, i did the same to my mom whenever my dad called ‘no need to cook’, i will teased her lucky you got a day off but she will answer back ‘i prefer to eat at home, lazy to go out’. still, smiling cheek to cheek…a good sign ^^

@Dongxing - Haha…..I think for me, it keeps my mind off and looking for some delicious food after that
I seldom eat so late at night, especially sweet food. So that’s quite unusual..hehe. Yes, ok by today. Very happy to receive a good cookbook by a publisher
Hope you have a wonderful day!
@claire - Haha…..I hope he doesn’t read this post
Yes, a great show and time well spent despite the extreme cold on the way home as it was so late. Found that my post was stolen from pingback which went into my comment box. I have informed but my post is still there. Will wait and see.
@kristy - See how powerful chocolate is…haha
I better make more on standby…hehe. Oh my gosh, how you survived all the rush EVERYDAY! You are one super mom! I did that before too when I was back home….totally crazy. The only thing….I was very dark and pretty…LOL. I seldom watch movies so all that you shared are new to me. I better catch up. I love family movies, especially funny ones. You really should go and watch ‘The King’s Speech’…really good. Hope you have a lovely day, too.
@Biren @ Roti n Rice - Thanks very much, Biren!
@sweetlife - My stolen blog post was pingback to my comment box. That’s how I found out. Just wondering how many more have been stolen. But it helps to watermark our pictures. You can use Google Alert. I caught my other stolen posts through Google Alert last time. Hope it doesn’t happen again. I need to make more chocolate cakes. At least it makes me happy
@elisabeth@foodandthriftfinds - Thanks very much, Elizabeth! Tried to forget it by eating more chocolate cakes. If more people steal my posts, I’m at risk of gaining weight
I love to cook but trying to learn more baking….less cleaning up to do
@5 Star Foodie - Thanks very much, Natasha! Your support always makes me smile
@plllisa - Thanks very much for visiting and your lovely comment, Plllisa!Oh yes, I love Pride & Prejudice, too. My children were addicted to it at that time. They even bought the whole series of DVDs! Colin is just such an amazing actor. I love his act in Bridget Jones, too. Now I think all mom are quite alike….maybe age factor…haha
@Light Delight with TouTou - Yes, I have to agree with you…..only after the show…haha
It’s really the cold weather that puts me off really. Ya, we do need occasional surprises every now and then.
@Maria @ Scandifoodie - Thanks very much, Maria!
@teresa - So glad that the chocolate cake helped. I’m all well and happy today especially when I received a very good cookbook from a publisher
@Namitha - Thanks very much, Namitha!
@Stella - I believe unpleasant happenings like that helps to make us stronger. I’m still learning. The movie was really good….very therapeutic, so was the cake
Hope you get to see the show soon.
@rebecca - Oh, you really have to watch that movie, Rebecca! It was just superb. I don’t mind to watch it again. Yes, making a cake at 10.30 pm…as a therapy…haha. It doesn’t happen often ![]()

kitchen flavours on March 3rd, 2011
What a rough day! At least you enjoyed your noodles! Yes, it is totally rude and downright unnacceptable to steal someone else’s post. Two of my post was repost, in someone else’s blog, even though the name of my blog appears at the bottom, it does not link direct to my blog at all. The thing that irritate me is, she does not even have the courtesy to contact me and let me know that she intend to do a repost. I just happen to browse the web about certain ingredient, and that lead me right to her blog! Some people have all the nerve!
And that’s not all, one of my photos was taken too, by another blogger, again without permission!
But it was a few months ago, I have cooled down since! ![]()
Jill Colonna on March 3rd, 2011
So sorry to hear about the copying. Makes me SO angry to see things like this. You should post the link and we’ll tell them! I have to say it’s so worrying when you post stuff. I’ve also had some probs and just wish people would ask first! I see you’ve also got the copyright link up but there are too many people out there who don’t think.
Your hubby sounds fun, though, and was just trying to please but I’m totally with you: you were all ready to cook and that is so annoying!
Loved how you put on your bullet-proof emotional jacket with THAT CAKE! Lol.

@Blackswan - Ya, it’s just annoying. Know what? Today I discovered someone else stole my post again. I will post about it. I’m sure everyone should know who these culprits are. Time to hit my chocolate cake again

@kitchen flavours - So sorry to hear your posts and pictures were also stolen!! There are just so many lazy people around who just make use of other people’s hard work to make money. I think we need to do something. Need to find how further. Glad you have got over with it. I need more chocolate cake!
@Jill Colonna - Jill, I’m so glad you mention that. I was quite hesitant to post the link. I ask for my post to be removed but looks like it falls on deaf ears. I will have to do that. You gave me some boldness to do it. Can’t be too kind to these people. Awwww….Jill….you are the only one who seems to understand me….cooking is cooking, not other things…LOL
