I usually serve all the dishes on the table but I also like serving a meal on a plate for various reasons. Firstly, it looks beautiful. Secondly, there will be no leftovers as all the food are divided out. Thirdly, it looks a lot and this will discourage more helpings. This is good especially for those who are trying to lose weight. This salmon burger dish is one of them. It makes for a good adult’s meal as well as a kid’s meal.
I love salmon not only for it’s delicacy but also for it’s health benefits, especially wild Alaskan salmon. It is high in Vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids which are important for the heart and brain. Unlike other meat, it is not fed with antibiotics and hormones. Wild Alaskan salmons are also caught from the least polluted place on earth.
I found this wild Alaskan salmon burgers some time ago in Cosco, one place I love to go if I have time. I was so thrilled that I immediately bought a packet to try. It was really easy to cook….just bake from frozen for about 12 - 15 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. The instruction gave longer time but I found that the meat becomes too tough. So experiment yourself if you cook these burgers. They are very delicious. My whole family likes it very much. It is very easy to serve up a meal with these. I’m happy that my children know how to fix a quick, healthy meal for themselves when I am busy.
I boiled some mixed vegetables with tofu puffs, add some fried garlic oil and sea salt to go with it. I also made a cucumber yoghurt sauce to go with the burger. But then my family prefer it with tartare sauce or chili sauce. You can go with your favourite sauce. This is a very healthy meal. However, it is too little for my family so I had some fried rice to go with it.
For fun, I also tried out a kids meal for those who have kids by cutting out the burger with a heart shaped cookie cutter. You can get 3 hearts out of one burger. It’s a good time to ask kids to help and teach them about love. Kids love fun, shapes and colours so this would encourage picky kids to eat. You can even teach them numbers and arithmetic from the vegetables or mini heart burgers.
This is another kid’s meal arranged in a different way. It’s a dish where you can teach about camouflage. Mommy and daddy’s love is always there but sometimes kids don’t see it because they see the wrong thing. You can even cut the salmon into smaller pieces and go for a fish hunting game, learning arithmetic at the same time. It can be real fun for both parents and kids. Just be creative.
Food and eating time are awesome for teaching kids about life, arithmetic and communication. I did that all the time when my children were young. They learn and absorb very fast. Remember they grow up very quickly. So, to those who have children or even grand children, take time to serve them healthy food, have fun with them and teach them as much as you can. It’s a great investment into their future.
