Spicy Prawn Fritters Stir Fry
Prawns, or shrimps, is my top favourite for savoury dishes. I love it cooked in any way. This spicy prawn fritters stir fry was actually a dish that went wrong. It was not meant to be a fritter dish but really glad that it still turned out very delicious. It became a new dish all on it own!
I actually wanted this dish to be dry and spicy but I made a mistake. I used frozen prawns which ended up with quite a lot of water when thawed. Without realising it, I added in all the rest of the Ingredients A. I ended up with prawns batter! I should have squeezed out the water from the prawns first. I will try this dish again next time. Maybe I will omit the egg too.
Nevertheless, this hot prawn fritters stir fry is simple and easy, yet delicious.
Ingredients A (prawn fritters)
150 small cooked prawns
1t light soya sauce
1/2t pepper powder
1/2t sugar
1 small egg (lightly beaten)
2T corn flour
Put Ingredients A in a mixing bowl and mix. Heat up some oil in a frying pan or wok and scoop spoonfuls of the prawn mixture into the pan. When they are browned, turn over and cook the other side until cooked. Dish up onto a clean plate. I didn’t use a lot of oil so it’s more like pan fry the fritters. I also make them into quite small pieces so they look nice and easy to eat.
Ingredients B (to fry)
4 spring onions
1 chili
fried shallots and oil
Ingredients C (seasoning)
1t sea salt
1/2t pepper powder
pinch sugar
Heat up some fried shallot oil (including fried shallots) and add the spring onions and chilies. Fry until fragrant and then add the seasoning in Ingredients C. Stir through and pour back the prawns fritters. Mix it well and dish up. Serve hot. It is spicy and delicious. You can eat it just as it is or you can eat it with rice or noodles or with salad.

Well if the dish goes wrong and still tastes good, everyone will eat it. If it doesnt, we’ll be the only ones eating it. Isnt it? I’ve had to eat my wrong dishes recently.

@anncoo - Thanks very much, Ann, for the link!
Your deep fried tofu looks really delicious. I need to go and get fresh prawns first to make your dish. I wonder whether ready cooked prawns would do cos it’s easy to get the frozen cooked prawns here…cheaper too.
@Conor @ HoldtheBeef - Haha…Conor, you are just so sweet!
If you come, I’ll cook a big dish for you…for free! Must be Autumn now on your side. We are in Spring now and getting warmer here. Really happy that the freezing cold winter is at last over. Take care and keep dry and warm.

The Kitchen Masochist on April 14th, 2010
I love anything with prawns. There’s a prawn fritter here that they make with grated sweet potatoes. They’re usually dipped in vinegar and chillies.
However, instead of using the ‘normal’ sized prawns like you used here, those small ones are used. I’m sure you know of these tiny prawns because a lot of PH ingredients are the same as MY ingredients. I’m not talking about the dried, salty, small prawns used as toppings either.
They’re used fresh and their shells aren’t peeled since they’re so tiny. When I go to the market, I’ll take a photo of these prawns I’m describing.
You’ll like these PH prawn fritters since you obviously have thing for sweet potatoes. ![]()
