Condensed Milk Maltesers Slice

Condensed milk Maltesers slice

It was such pure joy to make my own Condensed Milk the other day. I have to say that cooking is such a fun hobby but blogging about food just adds so much more fun, challenge and thrill to it.

As promised, here’s my beautiful dessert to share, made from my homemade condensed milk. When I saw this lovely slice at http://www.chocablog.com, I was so excited to try because of the condensed milk and Maltesers. I had a lot of Maltesers from Christmas and I knew it would be a hit in my family. I was right. My children said it’s one of the best they have tasted.

I followed the recipe quite closely except for some slight changes. I didn’t know what were the biscuits mentioned so I used malt biscuits. Instead of milk chocolate for topping I used dark chocolate. I doubled the recipe to share with friends. The recipe adapted is:

Ingredients A
360g Maltesers
500g malt biscuits

Crushed Maltesers and biscuits

Crushed Maltesers and biscuits

Process both lightly in a processor. Don’t over process it because you still want the crunch.

Ingredients B
400g condensed milk (I used the one I made)
250g butter

Condensed milk and butter

Condensed milk and butter

Heat Ingredients B under low fire until butter is all melted. Add to Ingredients A above and mix well.

Press the mixture into tin

Press the mixture into tin

Press it into a paper lined tin and chill it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. I just left it in the cold garage.

Ingredients C
400g dark chocolate
150g butter

Chocolate topping

Chocolate topping

Melt the chocolate and butter under low fire. When it’s all melted, pour it over the cooled slice. Leave it to cool completely until the chocolate hardens before slicing. Cut into slices and serve. It’s very delicious. I actually find it quite addictive. It’s rich and fattening I must say, but once in a while it’s ok and good for the soul. My children liked it very much and said it’s one of the best they have ever tasted. This is a great item for parties.

@Anncoo - I can’t remember using it in desserts except a steamed cake. But now I’m going to use it more often :)

@Anna - Maltesers are very delicious, can be very addictive. It is chocolate coated biscuits….beautiful malt flavour, crunchy and sweet. Gives this slice a very lovely texture and flavour.

Yum! These Maltesers look terrific! My daughter would love this for sure, I have to make it for her!

Mimi  on January 15th, 2010

This looks so yummy. Maltesers look like what we call malted milk ball, or whopper in the US. I’m going to try it with them and of course the homemade condensed milk.

Yummy……remind me of chocolate shortbread slices….

Erika from The Pastry Chef At Home  on January 17th, 2010

So cool you made your own condensed milk! I love that you swapped dark chocolate for milk. Milk chocolate would have made this way too sweet! This is the perfect snack to have with a cup of coffee (or tea) :)

Mary  on January 17th, 2010

@Sarka - I fully understand what you say :D I have been eating so much, and so are the rest of my family.

@pigpigscorner - They combine excellently well. I’ll be making it again very soon.

@Janice - I just have to forget about my waist….too good to resisit :D I’ll exercise more.

@Thas - LOL…I do believe you, Thas! I think I’m second to you in condensed milk :D We must give each other a shout whenever we eat condensed milk :P Thanks very much for the links. I have to look them up and try. I’m sure I’ll like them.

@Kitchen Butterfly - Oh yes, I think I can use shortbread instead of malt biscuits to make this wonderful slice. I’m sure it will taste just as good.

@Erika from The Pastry Chef At Home - I was thrilled that we can make our own condensed milk. This is the beginning of many more wonderful desserts with condensed milk :) Yes, the milk chocolate would be too sweet.
