Great Food, Great Time

Great Food, Great Time

It’s time for friends to get together again for food, chat and fun. My friends and I often get together for happy hours while our husbands are at work. However, every now and then we do include our beloved husbands and children.

We just had a lunch party a while ago. We made it pot-luck so that it is easy for everyone. There were 5 families. We had lots of good food and lots of laughter. I’m not sure how many did not suffer from cramps in the cheeks and stomach from all the jokes and laughter. We had a most wonderful time together. Again I have to say that food always enriches friendship.

Beautiful candle of love

Beautiful candle of love

I must say that I really love this beautiful candle. It’s just so appropriate for the occasion. It is truly the love that is freely shared that brings people closer together, building stronger bond and friendship. I am always greatly thankful to have wonderful friends, friends who make a big difference in my life.

Here are some of the dishes that we cooked and shared. There were so much to eat and we enjoyed every dish. I brought along Steamed Egg Tofu with fried mushroom topping and Steamed Char Siu Chicken Dumplings

Steamed Egg Tofu with fried mushroom topping
This is the first time I brought along a vegetarian dish to a pot-luck party. Everyone liked it very much. This time it was more successful than the one that I made last week. I used very low fire.

Steamed Char Siu Chicken Dumplings
We can’t get freshly-made steamed dumplings here so everyone was happy to have these. They are time consuming to make but it’s all worth the effort to see they went down well.

Chicken curry
Chicken curry is an item never to be missed in any Asian party. I always say that curry makes my world go round. It goes excellently well with many food especially rice and noodles. I love curries that come with a bright colour like this one, on top of the taste and aroma.

Thai Vermicelli Salad
This is a Thai cold dish. It is very appetising with a beautiful blend of saltiness, sweetness, sourness and spiciness. On top of that, the fine aroma of coriander leaves make this dish irresistible. The tomatoes bring colour to this dish.

Strawberry Cheesecake
Of course no one can resist this. We were all aware that we must leave some room in our stomachs for this beautiful cheesecake. What a lovely end to the meal and the great time that we had!

The Wonder of LOVE
This is our dear friend, Chui, who was holding a friend’s 3 weeks old baby. There’s something very amazing about Chui. He is reputed to make any baby sleep in his arms! How he did that I have no clue but I can assure you that he has such phenomenal eyes of love for babies which I can only believe that it is translated through his arms to the baby. I guess every father-to-be must learn the secret from him.

Gaze of amazement

Gaze of love and wonder

This is truly a very memorable time that we had, one which I will always cherish.  Friends, I do hope that we do not just concentrate on ourselves and live for ourselves but to take time and make time for others, especially our friends. The world is a miserable place without friends. Friends make our lives exciting, happy and meaningful.

Are there friends that you have forgotten? Would you give a call or write a short note today? Are you just too busy for friends? Please share, add and comment in the comment box below.

Wow, you always have get together with friends while the husbands are working. I need to invite myself over. It’s great to have friends invited and help you around in the kitchen and enjoy a good conversation. And it’s been a long time.

It’s nice to have such wonderful friends to help us get through in life, isn’t it? I am very appreciative of my friends especially those have really make it easier to face life when things got difficult at certain periods of my life.

joylicious  on November 18th, 2009

oh how wonderful Mary! When I was little my father would arrange these parties during the Holidays and i would always get so excited because there was an endless amount of food — the kitchen would always be full with people chopping and cooking away with the loud laughter and chatter of the guests having a good time, we would also play games and of course sing KARAOKE hahaha — you looked like you had a wonderful time :) I loved that steamed egg tofu dish I would eat the WHOLE THING.

Mary  on November 18th, 2009

@3hungrytummies - It was a big spread…so much to eat. I’m sure everyone over ate.

@foodlovee - You just need to invite me…I will bring nice food along :)

@anncoo - Wow….an award from you! Thanks a zillion. Really appreciate very much. That was really unexpected. Thanks for your lovely comments and support too.

@Sarah - Thanks for your lovely comment. The cheesecake was made by my friend. She’s a master in cheesecake. Everyone liked it very much.

@lululu - Wow….I must let all my friends know what great cooks they are. I think every gathering makes us better cooks :)

@Conor - Haha…amused at your comment. Just wait til you meet my friends…I’m sure you will fall in love with them too.

@Jeannie - Totally agree with you that friends are very important in life. Very good friends walk in when the rest of the world walk out. Difficult times are times when you know who are your real friends.

@Joylicious - Awww…you have such an awesome dad….really warms my heart to hear that. Karaoke would be so fun. I haven’t done that before. One day I must try that…testing out singing talents…haha. Glad to know you like the tofu. Hope you try out soon.

Hello Mary! :)

I’m sorry, I have a lot of work right now and I do not have much time to visit you on your nice blog!

But I read the daily newsletter! :)

I wanted to say I find your cheesecake absolutly fabulous! and all the other dishes that you have posted make me really hungry every time.

I wanted to ask you a question on the Lemon Bars. I have a problem with the translation of a measure of flour 2C what does C mean please? I really want to make this cake! ^_^

Thank you!:)

I wish you a nice day!:)

Kisses :)

Mary  on November 19th, 2009

@Cenwen - Hi, thanks always for visiting and for your lovely comment. Really appreciate your constant support. By the way, C means cup. It’s the measuring cup for baking. 1C flour = about 150g. I love to use cup cos it’s so easy to measure. Hope you have a nice time baking and enjoy the lemon cake. Wish you a nice day too…..muuuaaak!

cenwen  on November 19th, 2009
