Good food and good friends are always a great match because life without them can be rather miserable and empty. We need good food and good friends to make our lives more exciting and meaningful. Food always gets people connected and build relationship and deepens friendship.

I’m always very happy to have friends around. A very good friend came recently to stay with us for a few days. We had awesome time of food, laughter and chat. We talked about a lot of things. I used to talk a lot about my 3 H’s, ie, Humility, Humour and Health. But when he came, he added more to my list of H’s, ie, Hair, Head and Heart! We had a lot of laughter over that.

Time passes so fast that our lovely time together now remains good memories to cherish. I’m sure we will meet again. During those few days, we had some of our best times over some of my best dishes. I cooked a few special dishes that my family loves. Oh, he liked it very much. I think he can place orders now…haha. These are the few special dishes.

Teriyaki Salmon
We are never tired of this dish. It’s always a hot favourite. It’s very simple and quick to cook. The best is to use fresh salmon.

Delicious Malaysian Fried Noodles (Part 2)
Fried noodles is always a must for any special occasions. So far, all my friends like fried noodles. This is another easy dish to prepare. You can cook it in many ways and still turns out good.

Tiger Prawns In Butter Sauce
This is an awesome dish. We really like it very much. The flavour and the tender texture of tiger prawns are just superb. It looks very impressive too.

Fried Zucchini With Eggs
Another simple and quick recipe. I love to fry vegetables with eggs. It adds colour and taste to an otherwise very plain vegetable dish.

Healthy, Humble, Sweet Potatoes
Baked sweet potatoes is so delicious and so healthy. I really like them. It is so easy to cook….just bake them.

Char Siu Chicken Puffs (pictured above). These are more challenging and more time consuming. I made these for our friend to bring home when he left. He thinks it’s the best. How exciting to hear that! The filling is made from char siu chicken, a very popular Chinese roasted chicken. To learn the fastest way to make this char siu chicken, click here.

Friends are very important to life, especially very good friends. They are difficult to find. They are ones that accept you as you are, are there when you go through difficult times and are there to cheer you on and celebrate with you your endeavours and successes. They are the ones that you can be yourself, to be able to talk freely without any fear of being sneered, criticised or betrayed. Similarly they are able to share and talk freely about their lives. I am very thankful that I have many such wonderful friends.

Great food you have there. Can I stay for a year? Just kidding but I don’t mind us being neighbors. We haven’t met in person but I feel comfortable sharing my thoughts with you. It’s like I’ve known you for a long time. Of course there would be a dessert buffet in your house too. :)

Jeannie Tay  on November 3rd, 2009

Agreed with Divina, great food indeed! Love those char siew pau. Pity it’s rather time consuming to make. Those sweet potatoes looks good too. I tried baking some the other day and they exploded on me! Serve me right for not keeping an eye on them.

Rochelle (Acquired Taste)  on November 3rd, 2009

@Jeannie - Oh my gosh….how did your sweet potatoes explode?? That’s so dangerous. I hope you are okay. Maybe next time , use a fork and poke some holes before baking. Please be careful next time. Thanks for sharing. Lovely to know you. Appreciate your friendship very much.

@Rochelle - Yes, it’s always quite a mini feast when I have friends around. It’s always lovely to cook and share with friends. But takes some planning and organisation to cook them. Lovely to know you. Appreciate your friendship very much.

Ah, I always the lastest one! hehehe… Hope you’re don’t mind. You know, the joyous thing when you’re at the other side of the globe is when friends from back home came to visit! It makes you homesick even more when they bring along those hand carried local specialty food. hahaha…. I guess you already salivating when thinking of that.

Christine@Christine's Recipes  on November 4th, 2009

Mary,
I like this post very much. Can’t agree with you more. We need friends, real friends.

Real friend would support, share and encourage each other.

Food brings friends together to get closer. And friends bring foods together to share. See all the pictures you posted here. You must have enjoyed being with many real and good friends.

Mary  on November 4th, 2009

@Kristy - Whether first, middle or last, your comments are always greatly valued. Oh…I do hope I have more friends from back home coming here but sadly just too few. It’s so cold most people are not interested :( That’s why I have to keep learning and keep cooking but still lots of food that I miss and don’t know how to cook. Really miss home and miss food. Really lovely to meet you. You have made my life a better one in this place. Appreciate your friendship very much.

@Christine - Thanks very much for your lovely comment. That’s very encouraging. I always enjoy & treasure my time with my friends. I have awesome friends here, very thankful for them. I must say it’s really lovely to meet you. Appreciate your friendship very much.
