Women’s Happy Hours While Husbands Work
Some of the best times that I have when my husband goes to work are Women’s Happy Hours where we have lots of food and all the absurd, interesting topics to share and laugh. It’s also a time we put our cooking skills to the test. We joke, we laugh, we tease each other, we exchange information and news etc etc. It’s always so relaxing and fun. We have always been such a happy, noisy bunch of ladies. I’m sure when each return to her own home, she is a better, happier wife and mother. All our husbands have to be happy and thankful when their wives go for such women’s happy hours.
Just recently we had a pot luck lunch. There were 15 of us and we came from different countries….Malaysia, China, Egypt, US, Singapore, Taiwan and Holland. As usual, there was so much awesome food. We talked about children, shopping, travels, beauty, food, politics and even H1N1 swine flu. Well, just look at these foods that we indulged in. It’s was such a FEAST! Sadly, I somehow missed out taking photos of a few dishes.
This kimchi pancake with the kimchi was made by me. I made kimchi every week so making this dish is easy. If you love kimchi, you can click on How To Make Korean Kimchi and to make the kimchi pancake, click on Healthy Korean Kimchi Pancake.
There are 15 bowls of laksa ready to be topped up with the awesome laksa soup which is very flavourful and mildly spicy. This is a very popular Malaysian dish and very time-consuming to prepare. We are all very thankful to our friend for preparing this awesome dish for us and for hosting this wonderful event in her home. Just look at the awesome, beautiful presentation. I think she should open a laksa shop.
This is such a delicious-looking bowl of curry laksa that my friend cooked. Everyone finished their share. Just proves that it’s so good.
I love the amazing presentation of this dish. The combination of colours is just inspiring. This dish surely needs skill and patience to do all those delicate wrapping.
This dish is prepared by my American friend. It looks lovely and delicious. I’m inspired to make it one of these days.
This is a popular Chinese starter. Mmmmm….delicious. By the time I took this photo, half of it was gone.
This is another lovely dish with 2 types of meat. Again I love the colour combination and the flavours.
This dish may look plain but the taste was really good. I ate quite a lot of it. I was glad it was right in front of me.
I love the colour of this dish. Curry looks particularly tempting and delicious when it carries that bright red colour from chili in the curry paste. It’s again a very delicious dish that goes well with rice or noodles or even bread.
Oh, I love this dish. The taste was beautiful. I’m not sure how many pieces of egg did I eat. It was too good to think about cholesterol then.
Well, my friend is a master in making chiffon cake. No one dares to take the challenge. To me, it’s perfect all the time. She often makes different flavours for different functions. It tastes so beautiful, soft and cottony. I have been trying hard to persuade her to make and sell. Just falls on deaf ears….hmmm. I’m not giving up yet.
These are the popular and expensive Krispy Kreme doughnuts. My friend brought all the way back from London. She had to hand carry it. So sweet of her. They are very special doughnuts, soft and nice.
This is again my favourite…..soft, chewy and refreshing at every bite. This dish of konnyaku jelly was made by a very young mother. She enjoys cooking and loves to try new recipes.
This is another lovely Malaysian dessert that she made. It tasted really good. It’s a lot of work to steam the pudding layer by layer. Children love to peel the layers one by one when they eat it.
This is the most delicious crumble that I have eaten. It’s not too sweet and suits my taste perfectly. I have often eaten apple crumble. This is the first time I have eaten a pear crumble.
We finished off our Women’s Happy Hours with gorgeous fruit ice creams that came with a few flavours. That must be one of the best ice creams I have eaten. I had 2 helpings. I was so excited to see the ice cream, enjoyed eating it so much that I forgot to take pictures of it!
All in all, it was such a wonderful time that we had. What’s more, all the food are homemade except the krispy kreme which was such a lovely addition as some have not tried it. Again, food and friends are like peanut butter. Food connects people and builds friendship. And Women’s Happy Hours will make women happier and more informed women.
Do you often go to parties? If you are a lady, do you have coffee morning or lunch with your girlfriends? Do you cook or just buy food to bring along for pot luck functions? What type of food do you have? Please share, add and comment in the comment box below.

Yes, definitely women are most happy when husbands goes to work! ha ha….Only then we can have our own little space & time. I’m happy when my hubby went for his fishing trip too. Then I can have more times for myself…he he!
