Spatula and whisk (to cook and bake)

Spatula and whisk (to cook and bake)

It’s almost 3 months into my blogging journey. I’m still very passionate about it and find tremendous thrill and joy in blogging. I started off blogging about a number of things but as the days go by, I find myself more and more drawn into blogging about food. I guess the main reason is because I have always been very fascinated and intrigued by FOOD. On top of that I have to cook and eat everyday so why not. So, here I have come out with my:

Top 10 Benefits of Food Blogging

  1. Everyone has to eat
Everyone has to eat to live, weather pauper’s food or palace food. Food is of utmost importance, one of the basic needs of life. We started to eat the day we were born. When I craved for certain food and couldn’t have it, even a picture of it is very gratifying. The next thing is I’ll try to cook it. As long as I don’t give up I know I’ll get it right one day.

I’ve heard of people who miss their favourite food so much that just a look of a picture of it is enough to bring tears to their eyes. A food blog with pictures is very appealing. So, if you are one that cooks everyday for your family like me, it’s a great idea to start a food blog. It’s quite like writing a recipe book and a journal, except that it’s on your blog.

  2. Everyone loves to eat.
One of the main topics of daily conversations is FOOD. If we want to build relationship and friendship, it’s almost always around food. That’s because everyone loves to eat unless it’s due to some health issues or food restrictions. Conversations in the midst of food has the power to soften any hard grounds and break any ice. It’s interesting how many business dealings were closed over a meal. It’s even more amazing how people would travel far and wide to look for nice food. Many even fight to eat. Remember all those fights at home for food while we were young?

Then there are just some who live to eat. And, if you are one that travels a lot, whether for holiday, business trips or just loving food, blogging about restaurants and the food and service served there will be exciting. Your blog will be a  great help to those who are hunting for a nice place and nice food to eat. It saves them a lot of frustrations. Not only that, it helps people like me to learn about nice food presentations.

  3. People want to learn to cook
A lot of people don’t know how to cook but really want to cook. I was one of them. Everyone knows that to learn from a culinary school is expensive. Besides, many cannot afford to leave their home or their jobs to do that because of time constrain.

To buy cookbooks and learn from them are not any cheaper. Cookbooks are expensive. How many of us bought cookbooks but do not make full use of them. I’m definitely guilty of that. Besides, most cookbooks do not show you the various steps to learn how to cook a particular dish. This makes learning to cook from blogs a far greater benefit for those who want to learn to cook because it is free and many of them show the various steps how to cook. Mine does. So, if you are one that loves to cook like me, you can start a food blog and show people how to cook.

  4. Introduce new food to people
A lot of people are adventurous and would like to try out different food especially if they travel or mix with people of other nationalities. I am one who loves to try out food from other countries. It helps a lot if someone introduce the popular dishes to me. I am always thankful to my friends for introducing me to their popular national cuisines.

And so, food blogs run by people from different countries are most welcoming for this matter. It is a great idea for you to start one and talk about food in your country with pictures and recipes included preferably. I would love to read that and even try out the recipes.

  5. Food connects people
Food always brings people together. Food and entertaining is big business because people love to get together to connect. Celebrating any occasion is always around food…. wedding, business, graduation, baby shower, etc.

Food blogs bring people together. Through my blog, I have made many new friends, from far and wide, who love to cook and eat, to write, to make money, to reach out to others and so forth, which is really exciting for me as a blogger. It’s something that still baffles my mind, just incomprehensible before. I am really having a lot of fun having a blog and blogging mostly on food.

  6. Adds value to yourself and to others
When you have a food blog, it adds values to yourself¬† and also to others. Each time I look at my blog, there’s such a huge sense of joy and satisfaction to see how much I have written and how much food I have tried and the number of lovely pictures that I have taken along with it. I really feel so happy and so proud of myself. It’s really an achievement for me. It adds to my self-worth and gives me greater confidence in life.

If I had not started it, I could have just wasted away my time doing a lot of unproductive things, like watching tv, too much shopping or even playing computer games. And to know that many people like my blog and have tried out the recipes just made me feel that my effort is all worth it. There’s no greater joy than being able to add values to others.

  7. Health is related to food
Anything that you cook at home is a healthier option. Someone says that health starts in the kitchen and I fully agree with that. This is because you can always use top quality ingredients to cook your food. You don’t need to add preservatives and additives. You and your family can enjoy a freshly cooked, hot meal.

Many people are very health conscious these days. I’m one of them. And so, if you have a blog that teaches people what to shop, how to eat healthy, how to cook a healthy meal and provide healthy recipes for people to try, you are doing a great favour for them.

  8. Good training for kids to cook and blog
I have just discovered that to have a food blog is good training for your own children. It’s an indirect way to teach them to cook and compile recipes. My food blog has become a good reference for my children. When they miss and want to cook one of the favourite dishes that I cook for them, they will go to my blog. That’s awesome.

On top of that, I realised that my passion, thrill and excitement in blogging had spilled over to my eldest daughter and she is starting her own blog now. That itself is so exciting. A lot of the things cannot be taught but caught. Passion never fails to warm up someone. A food blog is a very good training for our own children to learn to cook and blog.

  9. Potential to make money
Blogging has high potential to make money. Like I mentioned in my previous post, the initial stages is always tough. It demands a lot of hard work to produce good value contents and then the social networking to promote it. In time you can earn from advertisements on your blog, sell your own cookbook, write your own ebook to sell and various other ways when your blog becomes popular.

If you have a food business, a food blog is an added advantage to direct people to your business because it is live where communities gather to read and comment.

  10. Expand your creativity and initiative to learn new recipes.
Running a food blog can be a real test of your creativity and initiatives. To me it’s the best hobby considering all the points above. I realised that I am greatly motivated to try out or even create new recipes.

I have found that I have become more innovative especially when I lack certain ingredients or kitchen gadgets. You will be amazed at how creative you are through blogging, a great way to keep your brain active.

If you have a computer and it’s already connected to the internet, then running a blog can even be free to do as you can always use a free platform like Blogger. And if you really don’t have much time, you can always update once a week with a good article or recipe and you will have 52 articles on you blog in a year. That to me is awesome.

The best life is one that you add values to yourself and to others through the things you say and the things you do. Through it, you make your life happier, more fulfilled and more meaningful. We can all learn and encourage each other to do that. Blogging fits in very well for that matter.

A very good place to start blogging is to blog about food. You can blog about the food you cook, the food you eat during your travels, party food, picnic food, health food or even just review restaurant food. The list is endless.

What have you been doing during your free time? Are you making good use of your precious time to do something that builds into your life? Are you one that just loves giving excuses even before trying?

I love the way you put the points across Mary, each one pertinent in itself. My fave, though not the most important, is ‘Food connects people’…am glad I met you!!

I agree too. I actually thought that food can bring WORLD PEACE. It doesn’t matter where you came from, whether you are rich or poor, everyone has to eat and everyone loves to eat. For me, starting a blog is way to get to know myself better again and to show people who I really am without being afraid of what people think of me.

Mary- Each point is an excellent summary of what makes food blogging a worthwhile and rewarding activity. Thank you for clearly sharing them, and good luck as you continue on!

I have to say, as many of the others have, that I agree with the above mentioned :) I feel that every point you made is the reason many of us blog about food (especially me ’cause it’s why I do :) ).

Thank you for sharing your reasons so that the rest of us can relate with you (and obviously each other seeing as we all agree)!
