Have A Dream

My blogging journey is really a very challenging, exciting and enjoyable endeavour. It is all about my dream to become a blogger and a good one. It never got off my mind since about 4 years ago. I never gave up learning for more even though it was so confusing. All the terms just blew my mind even until today but I’m learning. I bought a course back then but it wasn’t helpful at all. It didn’t teach me all the installation and how to run a good blog.  I put off for quite long after I became too busy with my teaching and family.

I know many people say it’s very easy to start one…just go to Blogger for a free one and start writing, about anything. But that’s not what I want. I really wanted to know well what is blogging, its potential and how to blog well to reach that potential.

Beaten Down But NEVER Be Beaten Out

My life was turned upside down when I was dismissed from my job as a Mathematics teacher in a prestigious private school in Scotland, despite very good teaching observation reports. I felt greatly betrayed and depressed. The case took more than one year to settle. I knew I had to get deeply involved in something that I love to distract all the nagging, painful thoughts. I was looking for one that can keep me distracted many hours each day, basically deeply engrossed. I remembered my dream. This is the time!

There’s A Great Dream In Everyone - Pursue It

I had to pursue my great dream. I checked it out on the internet again for information and came across Problogger by Darren Rowse. I was completely amazed reading all his articles, so much different from what I read 4 years ago. I subscribed to his blog through email. One day, his article mentioned about Yaro Starak and his blogging course. I printed out all of Yaro’s free copies of reports. One of them is ‘Blog Profits Blueprint‘. It was really good stuff, worth reading. I was actually very surprised that he gave it away for free! He also gave Module 1 of Become A Blogger Premium course for free. It consists of 10 short video lessons. They are very easy to understand and a real eye-opener to me…very refreshing. You can access it at BecomeABlogger for the 10 free video lessons.

Let Nothing Stops You From Achieving Your Dream

At that time I went through an operation and was bedridden. To beat my boredom, I watched all the 10 videos - just absolutely phenomenal. It was all so fascinating and easy to understand. Immediately my mind was filled with all the exciting things that I could write, the domain name to choose and all the fun I’m going to enjoy. I wrote a lot of articles during those times while lying down, slightly propped up, in bed. The days passed by real quick. After I was allowed out of bed, I registered for Become A Blogger Premium to learn more. There are so much to learn to become a good blogger. It took me a long while before I started to apply it. This course teach you how to add audio, video and podcasting which are all very exciting. To date, I am still studying and applying, at video 54 now, but haven’t applied everything I read.

Be Passionate About Your Dream - It Can Be Lonely

I know very little about computer so setting up the whole thing was a real challenge and a nightmare. I remember spending about 8-10 hours on the first few days trying to settle with the right domain name, having it hosted on Hostgator and installing the various plugins on Wordpress. Just a tiny mistake would cause the whole thing to jam up. But finally I got it all done - SO HAPPY!  What an achievement! In fact no one in my family was there to help me. They showed no interest! They thought my idea of blogging was just a crazy idea and will die off soon! No, I’m still passionate about it. I have been enjoying myself blogging everyday so far.

Be Ready To Spend To Learn

I spent to register for Become A Blogger Premium. I really wanted to learn more. I greatly enjoyed it and find it absolutely enjoyable and beneficial mainly because it is in video format. It is still quite heavy stuff for me but I know I’ll be getting there one day. Both Yaro and Gideon are my awesome mentors and coaches. They speak clearly and their Australian English is very easy to understand. The best part about the courses is that you can watch the videos online or through iPod, listen through MP3 or download the transcripts. I personally watch the videos to understand better and print out the transcripts as reference.

Be Diligent To Research and Learn

I know I have to be diligent to learn. Everything makes more sense now. If you are serious in starting a blog, not sure how to do it and want to do it well, I strongly recommend you to get Yaro’s courses. They are very affordable and a great investment. You can take your own time and you get a lot of help through the private forums. I find him very sincere even though I have not met him. To be able to give away great value stuff for free and wanting people to succeed is really very kind of him. He really goes all out to help and that makes him stand out among others. Find out more from his blog, He has awesome articles there.

Be Smart - Learn From Successful People

Apart from Yaro and Gideon, another successful blogger is Probloger. I have benefitted a lot from him too as he shared about 31 Days to Better Blogging. I read through everyday last time as it came through the email. Darren, author of Problogger, has now come out with a workbook for his 31 Days to Better Blogging, a book that you must have as it contains all the important things to do and the resources for a better blog. It is a very good book to have alongside you as you blog, a task to do for each day. Again it’s very affordable and a great investment. I have bought mine and find it very handy and useful now that my blog is more than 2 months old. Click here to view more details

In life if we want to be successful we must learn from successful people because they have learned from their mistakes and we do not have to repeat those mistakes. Darren, Yaro and Gideon have really helped me to start off well in blogging and have given me the confidence to do it right.

Then, there’s this less-than-2 minutes videos on tips and tricks to blogging. I find it very useful too as a beginner. They are free.

Keep Going. Bad Things In Life Can Be Stepping Stones To Success.

That’s really how my dream to owning a blog is finally fulfilled. That’s the best part of it all…….unspeakable joy. It completely took over all my struggling thoughts about my school case which was finally settled with a public apology with my integrity and reputation intact. Now I look forward to creating a wonderful blog. I will keep learning, keep applying what I have learned and keep smiling.

It’s always said that after the storm there’s always a rainbow. If God shut the door, there will be a bigger, better door open for you. When you look up long enough, you will see the beautiful stars but if you keep looking down, you will only see dirt and mud. Where are you looking? Are you working hard on your dreams?

Keep learning to gain knowledge and keep smiling to make the journey easier and more enjoyable. Next week, Part 2, I’ll share about what I did next after I got my blog started.
