Is your life fulfilled and meaningful?

Is there a way to find fulfillment, meaning and happiness in life? Do you find yourself engulfed in the waves of confusion and depression that is sweeping through the world right now? Are you losing grip and control of your life? Have you come to a point not knowing what is right and what is wrong anymore? There are times when I do wonder.

You can ONLY change yourself.

But instead of questioning and feeling disappointed, confused, angry, helpless and hopeless, you can do something. There are a lot of things in life that you can’t change but what you can and should do is to change your own attitude and perspective about life and the situation that you are in. Instead of reacting negatively, you can respond positively. You don’t have to follow the crowd blindly. Dare to be different and confident even in stormy times.

Dare to be different

Dare to be different

You need keys for life

As for me, I have a set of principles guiding my life to stay focused as I trudge along life’s journey, be it mountaintop or valley experiences. They helped me to be courageous, dare to be different and dare to break out of my comfort zones to touch other people’s lives and to dream and see my dreams come true.

Character training for life

From very young, my parents spent a lot of quality time with me, tirelessly teaching me about life, crafting all the important principles of life to build up my character. While my mom taught me much how to grow up as a lady, a mom and a wife, my dad taught me how to live life wisely and successfully outside in the society.

Mistakes are stepping stones to success

I have made mistakes in life but all the principles that guide me through my life have helped me to learn from my mistakes and come through a stronger, more mature and better person. I am so thankful for my parent’s love and training that has brought a beautiful balance in me and made me who I am today, a contented mother, wife and friend. In similar ways, I devote my time to train my 2 lovely daughters.

Here are the Key Principles To Success and Fulfillment in Life that you can adopt and use. They will also help you to dream well and see your dream come true.

  1. ABCDDD and the boomerang effect
Life is like a boomerang. When you Avail yourself, Believe that you CAN do it and be Committed to doing it with Dedication, Diligence and Determination, it will return with the fruits of your labour like a boomerang.
  2. If there’s a will, there’s a way.
If you really want it badly enough, you will definitely find all ways to make it happen. I remember I was so desperate to have a lot of puppets for the children in the children’s church that I was heading that I spent about 2 years figuring it out how to do it, improving from mistakes after mistakes. Eventually I was successful and made close to 20 of them.
  3. Everything starts from a single step.
Before a baby can run it has to learn to stand and then walk wobbly initially but soon became steady and eventually run. Walk fast, talk fast and work fast to achieve fast doesn’t work and doesn’t last. Even if it works, it brings along with it a lot of stress and hurt towards yourself and others. It destroys more along the way. It becomes a lonely, exhausting journey. Take time to build success upon success.
  4. Knowledge is powerful.
We always hear, ‘It’s better not to know than to know half the truth, or even the whole truth’. We can’t live in ignorance and we can’t live in denial. Lack of knowledge can hurt and sometimes is powerful enough to destroy. Don’t jump into the river even if you are an Olympic swimmer. There many be lots of crocodiles in it. You need to have knowledge of the river!
  5. All work no play makes Mary a dull girl.
Play forms a very important part of our life. It helps us to relax. When we are uptight and stressed out, we will not be efficient physically and mentally. What we produce will then just be a mediocre piece of work. Creativity comes only when the mind is relaxed.
  6. Prevention is better than cure.
If you take preventive measures, you don’t really have to look for a cure. Even if you can find a cure it often comes too late. If it comes in time, is it worth all the suffering? If you take preventive measures to brush you teeth and keep it clean and eat a proper diet, you don’t have to see a dentist which is costly and time-consuming.
  7. If you want to reap, you have to sow.
Every action you take is like sowing a seed. The type of fruit you want will depend on the type of seed you sow. You will not reap oranges if you plant apple seeds. If you want a healthy body, you must eat a proper diet and exercise. If you want to start a food business, you have to start learning to cook first, not fly an air plane!
  8. If you have nothing good to say, keep quiet.
Stay positive. Don’t let negative thoughts overtake you and play you out. Failing at a project doesn’t make you a failure. The greatest failure is when you fail to try. Every successful endeavours are trashed with many ‘failures’. Whatever you say aloud, you hear it and it will reinforce your thoughts, be it good or bad.
  9. Contentment comes from the heart.
Contentment does not come from the material things that you have but from your heart. It’s your attitude that counts. Know the difference between a happy poor farmer and a filthy rich miserable man, a happy simple woman and a depressed A-list celebrity.
  10. Time is precious.
Don’t waste your time. Do not live to regret later. Many regret on their death beds. If you live your life right, you will not regret later. Remember that certain mistakes are not reversible. If you are lazy and fail your exam, you can study hard and sit for it again. The only regret is the time wasted. However, if you don’t spend time to train your child from young, it will be too late to train him when he is in jail.
  11. Love conquers.
What do you gain if you live selfishly, have the whole world in your hands, but lose your friends and your integrity? True love is powerful. It adds value to you and to others. In fact, it adds more value to you. As is often said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Take time to love.
  12. Be childlike, not childish.
Keep your childlikeness and you stay young. Childishness makes you a fool. Don’t let your life become too serious and dull. Be playful, fun, curious, simple-minded and so forth. Read my other post, ‘Be Childlike, Not Childish‘.
  13. Do not compare.
You can never be happy if you keep comparing. Don’t compare your garden to your neighbour’s and get upset. It’s not that the garden on the other side is greener. It’s just that your own garden needs some work to make it green.

    A garden that needs mowing

    A garden that needs mowing

  14. Family is the training ground for life.
The family is undeniably the best training ground on earth for our characters, both for parents and children. If you can’t control your temper at home, you are going to blow your temper outside. It’s just a matter of time. If you can’t love your children enough to train them, your efforts outside trying to do charitable work is just a hypocrisy which will soon show.

Do you have principles guiding your life? Do add and share your thoughts. Keep learning from one another and keep sharing the joy with one another.

Thought of the day……

‘And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.’

Abraham Lincoln
