(Part 1 -  How to dream to achieve what you want?)

After you have a dream, so what? Just continue to day dream about it? NO! If you do that you will never see your dream come true. It remains just a dream. DO SOMETHING! You have to start taking actions, one step at a time, consistently learning, working on it, evaluating it and executing it. To do that you have to take the following steps or commitments. These are the steps that I always take to make my dreams come true.

The Journey of a Dream can be Rocky, Challenging and Lonely

The Journey of a Dream can be Rocky, Challenging and Lonely

10 Important Steps to Make Your Dream Come True.

  1. Be purpose driven
Every little step that you take must be purpose driven . You must have your dream and goal very clearly in your mind, not wavering in any negative situations. You have to stay much focused even if no one supports you, even when you run short of money or even when people mock at you.
  2. Stay passionate
Be passionate in every action you execute. When the going gets tough, take it as a challenge. Never ever say the word ‘QUIT’. When you encounter a problem, seek earnestly to find a solution, not throwing tantrums.
  3. Be prepared for change
You need to be prepared to embrace some changes along the way to accommodate your dream. Maybe less sleep as you spend more time working on your dream, maybe less savings, maybe having to work more for extra income, maybe less time for yourself for your other hobbies and so forth.
  4. Be committed and diligent
Work hard on your dream and never quit. It is always too early to quit. Take time off for a break to relax and get refreshed. It really helps. Keep going, keep going. Stay on the journey.
  5. Celebrate every little progress
You can celebrate it alone or with those who have shown support to you. It is very motivating and make the journey more fun, more satisfying and easier. Encourage yourself all the time.
  6. Mistakes or failures is normal and sometimes needful
No journey is a smooth journey. You are bound to meet challenges along the way. Mistakes or failures are common and a stepping stone to further progress. Just like climbing a mountain, it’s never a smooth journey all the way up. There are times when you have to descend in order to ascend.
  7. Be prepared to spend
You cannot achieve your dream without spending any money. You need to spend on resources, whether to learn more or to execute your dream. If you run short of money, then you need to find ways to earn extra money, whether find extra work, do fund raising or other ways.
  8. Seek out resources
Every step of your dream will need new resources, depending on your dream. It can be material resources or human resources. Scout around for the best. There are a lot of free or cheap resources around, for example, online, charity shops, charitable organizations, government bodies, friends, car boot sales, auction, eBay etc.
  9. Research and make survey
Depending on your dream, it’s important to do research and make survey. This is especially so if you want to start a business. You are going to fail miserably if you dream of becoming a businessman selling refrigerators to the Eskimos! They don’t need that.
  10. Be prepared for the lonely journey
The journey can be long, tough and lonely. Be determined to keep walking. No one can understand your dream like you do.

As you take all action steps to make your dream come true, remember to keep learning and keep smiling and you will find the journey a lot easier and more fun. When you are happy, your mind thinks better. When your dream finally comes true your joy will be unspeakable while others envy.

What if one member of the family is not supportive and quite selfish? I think I should print this out. Thanks Mary.

Thanks for adding. Sometimes it can be difficult. I have experienced that. The main reason is they can’t see what you see. It takes courage, focus and determination to stay on track to see your dream come true. It can be discouraging but don’t give up. There are always supportive people around. You can count me in.

That is so true. They can’t see what you see. Sometimes one of the most difficult part of accept if your own mother doesn’t support what you do. But I believe you are very supportive of your kids. Oh, thanks.

I understand what you mean. Many parents still exert much authority even as their children grow up. We never seem to grow up in our parents’ eyes…both good & bad. My advice is to talk through with her with your utmost patience & gentlesness. Do it in small steps. Test the waters before you speak. When she is convinced, then move on another little step. Stop if you sense the resistence. Try out different methods. Hope it helps.

I’m way to grown up :). Thanks for the advice Mary.
